Hotel Spero is a small, old renovated hotel that is nice and clean inside, but it’s in a rough neighborhood, Tenderloin, and there were hoards of homeless people everywhere on the streets. There were also 2 other hotel cleaning staffs picketing across the street from 7am-10pm blaring sirens, yelling, drumming, and keeping our family awake.
I spoke to the front desk and said we completely understood that they need to picket for better wages, but that we weren’t going to stay for the next two nights at the hotel and needed a refund for our remaining two nights. She told us to contact hotels.com who contacted the hotel management and refused our request, only offering to move us to a higher floor, which wouldn’t have accomplished anything.
Stay in Nob Hill or Fisherman’s Wharf or basically any other neighborhood, unless you enjoy covering your ears all night and dodging hundreds of people living on the street right outside.
The bathroom and room were also very tiny.

Room and bathroom was very clean and modern. The hotel has a very nice artistic vibe. The area is not the best, not recommended to walk around the area with children as there is a population of homeless walking around at all hours. The front desk staff was not friendly nor welcoming.

Great hotel, with very comfortable larger (for the City) suites! Perfect stay for a family. The staff was so kind and attentive.
The only bummer is no onsite parking options, but the ACE Parking Garage is right next door so that is a plus. The pricing is great until you add in the damn resort fee and cost of parking garage next door - adds an additional $100. Food was subpar, I'd recommend eating offsite for sure.

My wife and I just finished a 5 night stay at Hotel Spero and we had a perfect experience. The staff was incredibly accommodating and helped in every way to make our wedding vacation perfect. The delicious cookies were a nice surprise and they even worked to get our family all on the same floor. The location was great for walking to union square and had plenty of stores around for the normal drinks and snacks. Thanks again to all the staff!!!

very nice stay. Good location, a lot of good restaurants within walking distance. Clean and nice room. Small bathroom. It is perfect for a couple, might not be for family with kids.

Hotel Spero is a nice hotel. Front desk was super friendly and helpful. Love that they are eco friendly. Rooms had nice decor. Sadly the neighborhood is very sketchy so didn't feel that safe. We walked to get a coffee and it was like skid row. And the price is high given this fact. Hope SF turns itself around soon. Love the city.

Was planning to stay for nearly a week at the property but upon landing in San Francisco, was alerted to a family situation that required me to basically fly back as soon as possible. The stay was non-refundable and I had paid in advance for the trip via Expedia but the hotel staff was extremely understanding and empathetic, working with myself and Expedia to waive the cost of the extra days that I was no longer going to use.
Between that and the accommodations themselves, I'd highly recommend this property.
