It was fine, we had booked a junior suite and the room didn’t have as many windows and lights as appeared in the photos when booking, felt very dark and gloomy. The furniture matched the pictures. The bathroom was not cleaned properly when we checked in, the cleaning and refill service was not good, they took our towels but never replaced them, no refill on coffee capsules or glasses/muggs. So we had to call room service to get new towels and so on. Don’t recommend to eat at the restaurant, drinks are fine.

The hotel is fantastic - it looks like it was refreshed very recently. Super comfortable bed, great linens, brand new bathroom, and the room is large enough for guests to be comfy. The area around the hotel is fine, but it is on the edge of the Tenderloin and thus has some addicted and unhoused community members milling about. I never felt unsafe myself, and I confidently walked to and from transit (8 minutes to Powell, 5 minutes to the Cable Car) including to find an Airport bus at 5 AM my last day. I'm not sure it would be fair to hold the hotel accountable for these urban issues, but it would be something for families to keep in mind. I will definitely stay again the next time I am back in gorgeous SF.

I had a great time at the Clift Hotel, a beautiful and sophisticated place to stay with friends and family. It also has an excellent bar. I highly recommend it. The service and the efficiency were way beyond my expectations. The Clift Hotel is forever in my heart.

The staff was amazing and extremely personable. They made you feel like friends/family and was very accommodating. Barbara at check-in/check-out was great. She remembered our names, reason for visit and even our room number. Steve the concierge recalled the nature of our trip from check-in and asked about it at check-our. I have already recommended The Clift to family members, and will definitely be where we stay when back in town.

We had a great stay overall. The junior suite was a great upgrade, and my son absolutely loved the extra space. Front desk and all personnel were very helpful. Rooms were a bit more modern than other hotels in the area. Great location near Union Square. Only issues we had. Plan on waiting on valet at busy times during the day. Call ahead. And the surrounding area isn't bad, but I wouldn't walk too far into the tenderloin district later in the night.

We booked this property last minute and were apprehensive based on some reviews but this hotel is very central and it is newly remodeled so sooooo tidy and crisp and clean. Also, we arrived late at night and the young man who checked us in could NOT have been any nicer. Everyone in the hotel was friendly and helpful. I was worried about being so close to the Tenderloin but it was a non-issue for the most part. If you sort of stay to the right of the hotel, you are fine. I was traveling solo with two kids, so my only complaint about the location is that I didn't really feel comfortable walking in the evening, etc. We just grabbed Ubers and it was totally fine for late dinners. Would absolutely stay again. I though the suites felt large for SF. The one issue: There was a strange emergency situation while we were there. A very loud alarm went off early morning. We grabbed our things and ran out of the room in our pajamas, thinking it was a fire. We got to the bottom of the stairwell only to hear an announcement that an "emergency" was reported in the hotel and they were investigating it and to stay calm. (All the while the alarm is blaring.) So we hustled back to our room and locked the door. It was very stressful. There was never an explanation and it was a little worrisome (esp solo with two kids) that they didn't explain the "emergency" as soon as they sounded the alarm.

It was very eloquent inside the hotel. The hotel staff were always willing to help (opening the doors, greeting every time we saw them again, giving directions and food options in the area) and really kind. We stayed in the Jr. Suite and it was perfect for our family of 5, very clean. The pull out sofa bed was surprisingly comfortable. The room had 2 closets that were perfect for hanging all clothes and storing our suitcases and shoes. It also had a Keurig coffeemaker so we brought our coffee pods which was a plus. The walk-in shower was enclosed in glass (I can’t stand tub showers), roomy and had a great rain shower head. Great location allowing us to walk two blocks to be in the heart of Union Square.

This hotel is fine - not terrible but also not great. We left with the sense that it’s a hotel that wants to be better than it is, but it lacks the amenities you’d expect of a higher end boutique. For example, no room service, rarely anyone at the door to help, no restaurant for lunch or dinner (technically, they have a bar, but it serves bar food and doesn’t allow kids). We needed to check in early and were charged $75 even though hotels.com notes free early check in. Our room was tight and we had to ask three times for bedding for the sofa bedding and then again for a proper blanket. I don’t typically write poor reviews, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I’d pay a bit more to stay at the Fairmont (or somewhere similar).
