The Royal Hotel

A lovely old place. They did miss part of my booking (made six weeks in advance) that the second room I booked for my grown kids needed a second bed, so my son slept on the floor. He was cool with it.

The staff is fantastic and I'm really sorry I didn't get names. The young man at registration was super friendly and we had a lovely chat about my plans for checking out the family castle ruins. The second day I ended up having to work. The bartender kindly kept me going with diet pepsi. The room was nice and thank goodness there was a fan in the closet because there is a bit of a heat wave right now! Lots of amenities --tea, coffee, biscuits, chocolate- nice hospitality set up in the room. My only recommendation is to bring your own shampoo and conditioner because though it looked lovely, it was terrible on the hair. Great location, right across the street from the train station. Lots of local restaurants. Hop on/hop off bus picks up right across the street. I would always choose to stay here again!

This turned out to be an excellent 3 day break and for the end of June the weather was good, sunny, no rain. The Hotel is situated in a perfect position for easy access to the town and surounding areas. It is directly opposite the train station so excellent for travelling and no taxis or dragging your cases around. Our family room was quiet, obviously due to the age of the building the floors were a bit creaky, the bedding was spotless and matresses very comfortable. A visit to the Roman Baths, though not cheap, was worth it and with the comentary and headphones you could hear about the history and renovation of the baths. We loved the shopping are and the local pubs, off the side streets, were great, fantastic food everywhere we went. Cocktail bars for late entertainment before back to our comfortable family room where the hotel staff were so friendly. We found the local people so welcoming and would definately go again. The Hotel was very good value for your money and the breakfast was excellelent.
