The Royal Sonesta San Juan

Reason for poor rating: this is more of an Expedia issue, than hotel issue, but should be coordinated together to fix. Surprise extra $291 (3 night resort fee) at check in. I’ve booked through Expedia before and resort fees have always been included. This was probably in fine print, yes, but anything like this is misleading especially as people often take into consideration price when comparing properties. I usually choose something through Marriott app, but decided to explore more options through Expedia. Lesson learned - I’ll stick to Marriott's app in the future! I am more than happy to revise rating if a refund is issued. The hotel grounds were wonderful, and the employees were super friendly. Room was clean, but the bathroom floor could have been cleaned a little better. We walked down the beach to the right a little and did the banana boat ride - so fun! Also, the pool towels were a nice size! Usually pool towels are baby sized, so it was great having a normal sized towel.

My husband and I had an amazing time. The customer service was outstanding, room quiet and clean with a beautiful beachfront view. The staff, ( too many names to say), are super friendly and helpful. We really felt like family at this resort. The last night of our stay, fireworks went off right outside our window as we were packing up. A great finale to a great time. We will be back!

Amazing, the staff is very professional and helpful. Highly recommend for family get away. Stunning views of the beach and hotel pool from the ocean view rooms. The beach and pool are the best you can find. The hotel food was soo good

Nice location that’s easily walkable to restaurants, shops and CVS/Walgreens. Very good accommodations and good for families.

Great place to take your family on vacation. The hotel was clean and relaxing. All the staff was friendly and helpful. Be prepared to send money. This hotel is expensive.

Booked this hotel for a family trip. The hotel is directly on the water for easy access and a great beach. The pools are big and had different depth areas if you wanted to stay away from the beach. There is an Avis car rental in the hotel which was nice. Inside the hotel there is a restaurant with plenty of choices-it is expensive though. Outside the hotel there are plenty of restaurants to walk to and eat. The rooms were clean and staff was friendly. A nice shop is in the basement in case you forget anything on your trip. Plenty of younger party goers, but they never bothered us enough to even notice.

I love this place! Perfect spot for a family vacation, pool and beach walking distance, restaurants around, it was perfect. Will definitely become our new to-go spot when we visit Puerto Rico again! Love the ambience & convenience

This is my third year in a row coming hear and I plan on coming again next year but with my kids this time everything is nearby and everyone is so nice and helpful.

Pros: the location was decent, and the pool and beach staff were nice, close to the airport Cons: the hotel is old and the rooms smell moldy The resort fee is a percentage of the room rate, not a fixed amount. We arrived at 10:30pm and asked the hotel for a small discount on the resort fee which was $89! They refused and was very dismissive with our request. I also work in the industry and I know this is not an uncommon or unreasonable request -lots of kids in the pool area, so can be loud. Also a lot of events in the hotel. - overall, for the price I wish I stayed at another hotel, I’ve stayed in PR many times, there are better hotels.

My stay overall was good. The room was clean, the towels and sheets smelled like bleach which is a win in my book. The balcony was small, not big enough for tables or chairs but you can stand out there and enjoy the view. The facilities were beautiful. The pool had little areas that were shallow enough for kids and the swim up bar was nice. The food and drinks were very good at the hotel but on the pricey side. The breakfast buffet had plenty of options but is about $32/pp which is a lot in my opinion. My son was with me and he's 4 and he was free for the buffet so that was nice. The beach was nice plenty of chairs and small tables with umbrellas. It was walking distance to pretty much anything you would need. The valet was great, you just scan a QR and they get alerted to get your car for you. We also ate at the Ruth Chris on site which was nice. The staff was very nice and accomodating. I would definitely stay here again.
