The Independence

Hotel is nice and clean but so many people in the halls were so loud super late at night. Then first thing this morning young kids were running up and down the halls. Not the hotels fault but also feel they could have policed it better.

During our stay at the Independence, there was a catastrophic incident u related to the hotel but very local. We watched the staff operate with such kindness and compassion towards the family and work with officials to help keep guests safe and also a respectful distance from the scene. A master class in both service and community involvement.

Meh… I wanted to love it. But the staff was hit and miss with good service. Sometimes we were greeted sometimes we were ignored. The breakfast is… super subpar. For a place that has a higher end restaurant offering the free breakfast leaves much to be desired. They didn't have anything for my kids to eat or many healthy options AT ALL. The one person monitoring the breakfast bar would often leave people’s dishes on tables after they left. I had to ask for butter and milk so that I could make my kids toast at the very least (but their store bought cheap bread was falling apart at the crust… really?!). If you’re traveling with kids, stay at a place in Salem with a pool and better breakfast…. Oh and save some $$ in the meantime. We won’t stay here again. Not the right fit for us.

Our go to hotel when visiting family in the area. It's clean, safe and the staff is great!

Great views and location. Loved the outdoor patio overlooking the river. We loved that you had to reserve the hot tub room so it was quiet and relaxing. Definitely will be back, but would not recommend for young children.

The bartender was a great guy! Everything was good the only suggestion I have is starting your breakfast at 6:30 am. A few of us families stayed here for a volleyball tournament and we had to leave the hotel at 7:00 am and it would have been really nice to give our girls breakfast before we left. Most hotels I have stayed at (which is many with traveling VB and such) have 6:30 am breakfast time.

We really enjoyed this hotel. It was very clean, the employees were friendly and helpful, and it was a beautiful location right next to the river. The only thing we would change about it was that they served the same exact food for breakfast each morning with no variation, and my kids would have preferred a pool to swim in rather than just a hot tub. Overall we loved it and would stay again.
