Courtyard by Marriott Winston-Salem University

I always stay at the University Courtyard of Marriott may it be visiting, family, or pleasure because I know what to expect from staff and staying there. I consider Courtyard my home away from home.

Perfect spot for a family or anyone trying to go to Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

I debated on leaving a review due to me staying at this hotel quite often when in town. I booked a room for thanksgiving evening w/ my spouse and newborn daughter. Everything was ok as it usually is, until the morning. I heard a soft knock from what turned out to be housekeeping. It is almost 9am and checkout isn’t until 11. No time wasted, she proceeds to enter my room, the only reason I woke up was because of the security bolt. I go into hallway to ask why she is trying to enter my room and she states “checkout is at 11” ok then why are you trying to enter my room at 9am?? I would not have been so upset had I not had my daughter w/ me, but to just try and waltz into my room unannounced, makes me believe there were other motives. My wallet and keys are just sitting on the nightstand, we’re all sleep, since when is this standard practice? I know they carry a log of rooms that are occupied, why not start w/ unoccupied rooms? You can clearly see the door tag, so why are you trying to sneak in my room? I’ve never had issues staying at this hotel in the past, which is why this is so baffling to me, this was unprofessional and completely unacceptable.

We visited with family for the holiday and had a great stay at the Courtyard. It was convenient to everything we needed.

I have a son at Wake Forest, so I've stayed here a number of times before--great location (to the campus), nice staff, solid/decent hotel/rooms/amenities, etc--all fine.....except last weekend when I arrived at the hotel to check in, I was informed that they didn't have a room for me.....despite me booking/reserving the room a month earlier, and the hotel reminding me to check-in and and confirming my reservation earlier in the day, via a text and Expedia's site--I was told that they overbooked, and I was the last one to arrive (was only just after 7pm.....not exactly late at night)......so, I was basically out of luck--huh?? Are you kidding me? How does that happen? The hotel blamed Expedia for miscommunication, Expedia blamed the hotel......I laughably then received a text from Exoedia about "a problem with my reservation", as I was standing at the hotel's desk (thanks for the advance notice)--brutal, ridiculous, unprofessional, unacceptable--I will say that the person at the front desk was very apologetic and worked to get me another hotel reservation, not too far away, fortunately--not sure whether to blame Expedia or the hotel, but......confirm your reservation, well in advance (even if they confirmed with you).
