voco The Tiger Hotel, an IHG Hotel

We stayed here back in 2013, and were impressed with the renovation. Sometimes after a remake, not enough attention is paid to the old place and it can revert. Not the case at the Tiger. The place is gleaming, clean and is maintained impeccably. Service was great - be sure to see Nick, the baby mixologist at the bar. Had room service - Nick again! The food comes from Glenn's, which is always excellent, and they don't tack on all those silly room service charges you get at most hotels. When in CO-MO, it's a few bucks more to stay at the Tiger, but it's worth it.

I am a Marriott girl through-and-through, so my husband didn't believe me when I called him from the room and told him The Tiger was nicer! It is VERY rare that I take a bath in a hotel because I have high standards for cleanliness and most hotels don't make the cut. The tub was the biggest and cleanest one ever! The bathroom was spacious and well-appointed (with Molton Brown samples!) and the room was modern and comfortable. I am used to paying much more for such an experience. Moreover, the staff was so friendly and accommodating. I felt like they were truly excited that I was there. I like that the same person who parks your car brings you room service. It gives a well-managed but family feel to the place. The only negative things I would mention were that I did have trouble finding a parking space because it is downtown and so I did have to use their valet service, when they replace their windows I would go for sound proof because I was wakened several times during the night with what I thought were voices on the street below and that there was a fire alarm while I was getting dressed and we were told to evacuate. I couldn't find the stairs because they weren't well-labeled and I had been pretty tired the night of my arrival so I hadn't noted them. Somehow while I was trying to reach the lobby the evacuation was cancelled and I wasn't sure how everyone else got that message but I did not. I will stay here any time I return to Columbia!

We had to change rooms 3 times and still did not receive what was reserved. Problems with room quality. The AC was not working and all rooms we entered we 80 degrees and took more than 2 hours to come down just 1 degree. Requested King was not accommodated. 3rd room was a connecting room and unfortunately we were connected to a family with 2 crying babies. Walls were paper thin and you hear ever noise next door and in the hallway. Too expensive to have this many issues. We will never stay here again.
