They have done a really nice job with this property. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. They did a good job communicating door codes and check in information prior to our arrival. The parking garage across the street did seem secure and safe. We did not see anyone loitering. Downtown Duluth was a little rougher than we anticipated and our room had quite a bit of traffic noise with being in the front of the hotel (Mayor Snively). Would likely not be a problem for others, but with kids we are in bed earlier. Overall a fun experience.

It was awesome! I was nervous about the check in process as there is no on-site staff but it was seamless and easy. Location is super convenient for activities in Duluth. Hotel itself has lots of character, was very clean and nice, and quiet. Both of my young children wanted to stay another night! Excellent amenities as well

My family booked a three-night stay in Room# 6 the Mary McFadden room. I like boutique, however, there is one big problem with this room. The entrance to the room is in the Japanese restaurant. They state it’s just steps away from your room, however, when you open the door, you are in the restaurant at the reception area and full view of the bar with the bar in full view of you. That also allows the odor of the restaurant to permeate the room. You will be spending your stay inside a Japanese restaurant. When realizing the room was inside the restaurant, you must text the hotel staff about the situation since there is nobody on sight. The staff originally stated they would give a partial refund since the room was unacceptable and we did not stay there. This began a series of lies. During my text exchange with the hotel, they were slow to respond since there were no staff at the location. They also gave excuses like the room details of it being steps away from the restaurant (inside the restaurant) were in the description and some people like the smell of a Japanese restaurant in their room. After months of going back and forth, they never gave us the refund and ghosted us on responses. I guess we will ever be able to get a partial refund even though they said they would on multiple occasions. The only thing you will get is multiple excuses. I am not saying all the rooms at the Oliver Inn are bad. I do know Room 6 and Room 5 are extremely problematic.

This property is a very unique, it is as if an Airbnb and Hostel had a child. You have your own private sleeping quarters with very and I mean very comfortable beds (I wish I had checked to see what kind of mattress it was because I need one at home), but you share the bathroom/shower with 3 other rooms. Now don't let the sharing of the bathroom turn you off this space. It was a very clean and very nice up-to-date bathroom! We all used to share shower space in high school gym class or at Y. Their cleaning staff seemed to be on top of things. My room had a tv, fridge, microwave, Nespresso maker, sink, and mirror. It is a very cool use of a very old building, Yogo/gym right down the hall, a bar in the basement, and a Japanese/Sushi restaurant on ground level. Not to mention, there is a casino across the street and you can take the walking bridge to park above the tunnel just behind the building, after a short 8-minute walk you are in Canal Park to enjoy all the shopping and restaurants. I will definitely book this room again for my next trip to Duluth.

You get what you pay for here. At least in the 'swedetown' rooms. Dark and damp basement with no windows. The shared bathroom is not ideal either. That said, if I wasn't on a family trip I would have enjoyed the bar downstairs and the short stumble back to my room. Lastly, the parking situation needs improvement. That ramp across the street has a 'get stabbed' vibe at night.
