Dubbel Dutch was a very disappointing hotel. First, parking. There are 14 rooms and only 7 reserved parking spaces, so be prepared to park on the street. Parking on the street in this part of MKE is extremely difficult. What's strange is that there is a giant lot right next to the hotel, but you can't park there. You'd think the hotel would make arrangements with that lot to provide overflow parking for guests. Second, daylight flooding the room. Our room (306) had a blocked-off upstairs, but obviously they didn't think of covering the windows up there, so there is a ton of light in the morning. The blinds on the main windows were also woefully inadequate. Third, inability to control the temperature very well. There were instructions to override the lockout, but it didn't work. Fourth, the noise. I get that it's a historic property, but the floors creak terribly, and you will hear every guest move in the corridors and stairs. Fifth, the narrow stairwells and no elevator. I'm sure it says somewhere on the website that there is no elevator, but it's not obvious when you book. Hauling your family's luggage up to the 3rd floor is not fun. Sixth, the bed. Sags in the middle. Billed as a King but it's not. If those things matter to you, avoid this place. On the positive side, it's a cool historic building in a beautiful neighborhood, which gives you the ability to walk anywhere downtown and even to the 3rd Ward. I won't be staying there again.
