The hotel is excellent, the decor is lovely, and the staff is accommodating. I was expecting the hotel to be lively like Chicago but was pretty calm including when we grabbed cocktails on the rooftop bar/restaurant. There are lots of homeless around the area with tents in the area along with shelters a few blocks away. Several people we passed on the streets were doing drugs and there were several cars with broken windows. I'm from Chicago and while I cant say I'm not familiar with homelessness, the area was almost like coming towards Skid Row in LA. Just be aware of yourself while in close vicinity. BUT no more than a 10-minute walk you find yourself in a better area with stores like Reformation, CB2, and Whole Foods.

Not a neighborhood for families. Feels unsafe. Little neighborhood food after 6pm. Hotel is cool. Music from the rooftop bar went until 3am, felt the vibration 6 floors down. No sleep. We left early.

The hotel, staff, service, is absolutely top-notch. I know Portland has always had a homeless issue but sadly the drug use in the area (not pot, but other) makes it harder to visit with kids.

While the staff is very nice and the lobby is lovely, the bathroom is very non-user friendly with dark poorly laid tile and almost no surfaces to put almost anything down. Room cleaning is only given upon request, which we learned on day 2. But beyond that, this neighbourhood is very sketchy, with boarded up buildings and people dealing with drug/mental health issues on every block. We watched drug deals from our window, and men said incredibly aggressive things to our teenage girls while walking with us. My heart breaks for Portland, a once idyllic city that now has enormous challenges. I do no recommend families staying here, our teenagers couldn’t walk the block to the donut shop by themselves.

Hotel got good reviews but they seem to be dated. Hotel is surrounded by homeless people which they can’t do anything about but makes for an uncomfortable stay if you have children. The room smelled awful due to the bathroom moldy smell. Toilet was also clogged so we got to plunge our own toilet for two days. There are night clubs right beside the hotel which ensure you will have difficulty sleeping before 3am on Thursday to Saturday nights. The staff were friendly and the hotel looks nice but too many negatives. We checked out after two days and found a new hotel.
