The location was good and access to everything in town was pretty easy. We were able to walk downtown without too much trouble. However, there were two significant drawbacks to our stay. First, the pool was not functioning. We had our kids on this trip, and pool time was an important part of the schedule. It was one of our must-haves when deciding on a hotel. Second, there is a building larger than this one being built across the street between the hotel and the city. We booked a City View room but only had a view of the side of this building. We were on the 8th (top) floor. Men were on lifts right outside our window all day painting. They were working on it while we were there, so it got noisy first thing in the morning. The hotel provided complimentary earplugs on the desk, which was thoughtful, but they are not practically useful because you can't sleep with them in. I understand that things happen, but what made me particularly upset was that there was no recognition from the staff that things were not as promised. A simple, "We're sorry for the inconvenience, but the pool is closed," at check-in would have saved us from getting the kids in their swimsuits, going down there, figuring it out, bringing them back, changing again, and trying to figure out what to do with the next hour and a half. Same thing on the construction view/noise. An acknowledgment that it was a problem at check-in would have gone a long way. Staying here again? Probably not. There are better options.

Been going to this property for years. Used to love it when I went to Asheville to visit family I would stay there. Basically its just not that great anymore. For one they are upgrading which means a bunch of half ass renovations being done. There was a huge hole behind the "renovated" shower head. The breakfast which used to be included is now an extra charge. The fact they push valet service is somewhat laughable. The homeless issue they have really isn't their fault, that is an Asheville issue in general. However our room with mountain view gave us a view of the building being built across the street. They were not that crowded they could have given us a different room. I used to like the fact this place was not smack in the middle of downtown but I doubt i will stay here again.

Super nice and accommodating staff. Very tidy rooms, friendly and helpful cleaning staff. Kids (and adults) love the complimentary cookies. Has enough parking, which cannot be said about other hotels in downtown. The Montford rooftop restaurant / bar has a neat vibe, great cocktails and food. Also family-friendly. Just make sure to make a reservation. Walking distance to many downtown spots.
