Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott Des Moines West

The ceilings in the rooms were so tall and beautiful. However our stay was interrupted by the kids wandering the halls at all hours of the night with no parental supervision.

Great area for family dining

Stayed here for a business trip and family. The room was ok, had to ask several times for it to be cleaned just trash picked up and clean towels but never got done without asking several times. The pull out bed was super small that my 12 year old who is 5ft 4 could hardly fit on it. Breakfast in the morning was good. Pool my kids loved but over done on chlorine levels and disappointed the hot tub was sealed off. Also during weather events such as tornadoes there is no information on were to go for safety only for fires posted.

I was unaware of how small the couch pull out was going to be. It was unrealistic for the plan of my child sleeping on it. The hotel was clean, breakfast had a decent amount of options, and staff was friendly. I will know for the next time that a room with a pullout bed is unrealistic for our family.

We had a Service Animal (male Sheltie) that needed allot of exercise and the area (walks & paths) around this hotel are ample. The Staff are exceptional in doing whatever they can to accommodate the needs of you & family. Very nice breakfast & exercise room. Pool is on the conservative size.

100% not satisfied. We arrived around 7pm to a lobby full of guests and no employee in sight and waited for nearly an hour for someone to show up to check us in. We had two exhausted kids off of a 5 hour drive sitting in a lobby with strangers when we should’ve been in our room. Corporate numbers were called and they were absolutely no help. After about an hour of waiting someone who said she was from another hotel came rushing in to check us in so we could finally get into our room. Once we got there we found the only way to secure our room was with the dead bolt as the regular lock was not fully latching shut and my husband walked by a chair with loose fabric on the side that cut his leg with a staple. In the morning I went to the desk to ask about the issue the night before and was told “that’s above my pay grade”. No apology and no help or concern from the employees there at all. I’ve never been so disappointed in something that should be simple in any of my travels and absolutely would not recommend this hotel in any way. What was supposed to be a break in a long drive home from a medical related trip turned into an extremely unpleasant situation.

This was a very disappointing stay based on the reviews on Expedia. I travel a lot for business and this is probably the worst hotel I've stayed at in a long time. The hotel was dirty and dingey. When we checked into our room, I noticed the window/screen were semi-broken. I turned on the AC as it was hot in there and it made a horrible grinding, screeching noise. I called the front desk and asked for a different room. They sent maintenance up, who said it would take 5 minutes to change out the unit. 30 minutes later, they were still working on it. We were exhausted from being on the road, so inconvenient, but not the end of the world. While maintenance was there, I tried to sit down in the chair, the leg was broken off. I tried to put something in the fridge, their was a pool of water at the top and it clearly wasn't working. Maintenance said they would bring another chair as my whole family was there and there were 5 of us. They eventually brought a little office chair. I didn't complain but they said they would hear from management about all of the problems. Never heard a peep. All in all, a pretty disappointing stay, that was overpriced to boot.

Our check in was great. We walked up to our room ready to fall asleep at 10:30pm, opened the door and there was a noticeable stench of cigarette smoke. I’m pretty sure we requested a non- smoking room. It wasn’t overly strong but we are non smokers so it was very noticeable to us. I smelled the bedding and pillows which smelled perfectly clean but you could smell it in the air. I asked the kids if they wanted to switch rooms. By the time I got an answer out of them they had suitcases open and they were laying on the bed. So We decided to stay, we were too tired to move. So I called the front desk and spoke to Samantha and let her know the situation. She offered to move us but I politely declined as we had already started settling in for the night. Samantha said she would give us a discount off of our room, but I haven’t seen any changes to my bill. Needless to say I was disappointed but it was late and we needed to get up early and continue traveling the next morning.

Clean, comfortable, nice location, nice staff. I give it 9/10 because the pool was freezing and I was traveling with kids so HAD to go in. Everything else was great though once I thawed out.
