Holiday Inn Express & Suites Vandalia, an IHG Hotel

We had to switch rooms 3 times because our keys didn’t work. We spent almost 45 minutes going back and forth from rooms to the managers desk with all of our belongings , a dog, and a very tired child while they tried to figure it out. The manager, who was doing his best to remedy the situation, said if we’d booked directly through the hotel, we would have had our stay discounted or comped, but because we booked through hotels.com there was nothing he could do. Makes me think twice about booking through hotels.com. I would love to see hotels.com do something for us!

This property has had issues with customer service, cleanliness in the rooms, bathtubs and toilets backing up, and elevator issues since changes were made in management/ownership. Our family has been visiting the area to see our family every other month since April of 2023, and we notice the decline in all aspects of service slowly starting in August 2023.

Room wasn't as clean as it should have been, but staff was very friendly and apologized for the mistakes, I was disappointed the hot tub was broken but the kids loved the pool, we will be staying with them again!

This was our second stay at the property. Overall a nice recurring experience. Our queen room was spacious for the family. As usual, morning breakfast options are ample with hot omelet/scrambled eggs and some meat option. Warm serving of breakfast makes is super nice with pancakes, cinna buns, coffee and drinks fountain. Fresh fruits were gone too soon. The management can think of replenishing the supply to last thru the breakfast hours. I recommend for family or work stay. Quiet and safe env.

Nice and clean place for a family stay. Good breakfast options that kids liked. Pancake machine to make ur own. Scrabmbled eggs, sausages, bread, cinnabuns, yougurt, coffes, milk cereals, juice bar etc all ejoyed by kids with fresh fruits. Our queen room was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, the bath tub was clogged and had to complete my shower in the puddle :( Bathtub issue should not have been overlooked by the staff and I find no excuse for this. Overall a nice experience and would recommend.

Clean, clean, CLEAN. The only thing I did not like is this. They said "there is construction so the door by your room is unlocked" That was GREAT for loading and unloading. But I did not like that an outer door was unlocked bc I live in a big city and I am paranoid. I am from a small town and know better. It was totally safe. So that is my only complaint and it is mitigated by the fact that she warned me in advance. Holiday Inns have come a LONG way since they were a joke when I was a kid and I depend on them now for road trips. This was one was EXCEPTIONALLY clean and the staff were great and the pool, the gym. yay - even for one night. But it is RIGHT in front of a Walmart. I did not use it but was SO EXCITED to be able to - LOL. And walking distance from a gas station. GREAT road side stop to plan or if you are lucky enough to get off the road in the rain when you didn't think you were going to stop .. this is the one. Very happy on our last day of driving. Plenty of green grass to walk doggie too.

We checked it around 10pm and the staff was so nice It was a fast check in. we even had a little bit till the pool closed and the kids loved that after a long day of driving. The room was nice. The beds were a little hard but not horrible. The breakfast was very good.
