San Jose Marriott

i had a death in the family and had to leave the day before and was denied a refund.

Well none of the restaurants open until 5 to serve food on a Sunday and we had to door dash food for our kids to eat. No hard alcohol served anywhere there until 5 pm and our car was stuck in valet for over an hour due to an issue with another car dying in front of my car. The food thing was the biggest issue for us. Also the wait times for the elevators was insane! They need more staff or something.

The hotel was nice and was in a good location with a nice pool. But the service at the valet was terrible, with no offer to help with baggage when we checked in, 30 minute wait the following day to get our car as there was only one employee working, and again no offer for assistance with luggage when we checked out the following day. I heard another lady saying that the valet had scratched her car up. There was also mínimal service inside with the towels not getting restocked at the pool and a very sticky floor in the elevator that was there all day. They didn’t have any breakfast options at the restaurant for small kids. The waitress found some little boxes of cereal, which was great, but then charged the menu ‘granola’ fee for both of them at $10 a pop!

It is important to state that my stay was 10-25/29 during the labor union strike so some services of the hotel we're limited or restricted. Lobby Regardless of the strike the staff of the hotel went above and beyond to make the stay as comfortable as was possible with the 10-30 upset people with megaphones outside from 6am-10pm by deploying extra security to the exits and setting up a speaker to play lobby music. Check-in The check in was painfully slow I assume do to staffing issues and when I finally did get to pay for my room my card was declined in the Marriott's end (many calls with my bank confirmed this) and the room was not ready until 4pm because of more strike related staffing issues. The room Finally a bastion away from the annoying droaning of the protestors. 22 floors up my room was a king bed with wonderful air-conditioning and a fairly large tv equipment with Netflix and Hulu. The city The location of the hotel was just very poor for a convention experience. The vast majority of the nearby restaurants are primarily lunch hours this leaves out the two primary convention attendy meals with slim pickings. Crowed, expensive breakfasts and even worse quiet liquorless diners left alot to be desired for the night life. Summary This hotel under strike still managed to provide excellent service and kept me feeling safe. The location is perfect for any late to rise early to sleep family's. I can only imagine this goes double in non-strike conditions.
