For the $1,500 spent to stay at this property for two nights, I had high expectations. Surf and Sand did not come close to meeting those expectations. I thought we were staying at a high-end/luxury property and this place does not qualify. We stayed in a JR Catalina Suite with an ocean view private balcony. That sounded great, but in reality we had a balcony with a view of the roof of the building in front of us with the ocean behind it. The view also included an Active walkway that generally had other guests (good afternoon screaming kids), housekeepers, and a friendly painter that we shared our morning coffee with. Not the relaxing time we thought we’d be getting. The room had a portable AC unit connected to the window (which I understand may be better than what other rooms had), but the room was otherwise fine.
Ultimately, if the room was half the price I’d not be writing a negative review. It unfortunately comes down to poor value and not meeting my high-expectations that came with that price. Note that I booked this room in early May, so it’s not as though I was booking this the week before when you’d expect to get hit with a higher rate.
One last thing - not a single member of their team acknowledged we were there to celebrate our 25th anniversary despite my calling the hotel and letting them know after booking the room.
I definitely will not be going back, and would not recommend. I’ve never left a negative review on Expedia before this…

We loved our stay!! All the Staff was kind and really helpful. Only issue we had were a rowdy group of people above our floor who were noisy and playing loud music (sounded like party kids) in the middle of the night (a lot of stomping) so it made it difficult to sleep. But other than that we had beautiful views of the ocean and room was magical!

Wow! I took my two kids here 12 and 10 for a few days - and it was beyond what I thought it would be! The staff was so accommodating and polite. The view was breathtaking. The ocean just a stair case away from the pool. Each night there was something fun to do ! Tuesday it was s’mores and cocoa night (free) , Wednesday was open bar and appetizers (free) for an hour or two , and Thursday was movie at sunset at the pool with a projector. Not to mention they delivered a microwave to us so we could make our popcorn , they delivered tents to my kids to sleep/play in - had room service daily , and turn down service . It was just amazing. There’s so many staff members - there’s always somebody around to help ! I am so impressed by this resort ! We will be back !

This is a beautiful property. The rooms shine, and have great views that do not disappoint. The food and beverage was of good quality and presentation, and front office staff is great. A few issues
1. F&B service is 3 stars, except breakfast staff (they are top notch). Things advertised aren't always followed through, you always have to ask. (for example, chips and salsa/margarita hour, I had to ask for the chips and salsa after we already waited 30min+ for the food, and they acted like they were doing me a favor). Splashes bar downstairs was busy, but I sat with nothing to drink, not even water for 20-30min and had to ask for someone to help. If you are charging so much for the F&B like the rooms, I'd expect better service.
2. Beach - there should be a note by where it says umbrella and towel/beach chairs available - with a BIG note not available certain times during the year for tide. The ocean waves go nearly to the building, so you cannot sit or play with little kids out there very easily, and no one out there to give umbrellas because it wouldn't be possible (October).
3. Splashes restaurant - when I was with my 3yr old daughter and husband, I definitely got a snobby attitude if we didn't have a reservation, arriving at 5 or 6, even though they lots of empty tables. They even sat someone right before us without a reservation, and asked if they'd be done early enough 6:30, they can seat them, then they turned us down. If was very off putting.
But it's beautiful...:)

The property was on a great location! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Very expensive for what you get. If you have an ocean view balcony there is no AC in the rooms and it gets really hot despite the fans they give you to plug in. If you are a couple looking for relaxation there are a lot of children at the pool so not great for relaxing. The food was amazing again be ready to spend as everything is expensive for instance an average small GLASS of sangria is about 16 dollars and food is also just as expensive. But it is a very nice hotel and the view from the balcony is extraordinary.

They are under renovation. The restaurant is not open. The lobby and parking is confusing. I got the impression they didn’t care. The room was by the pool and there was no privacy. It was loud with children playing in the pool.
I’ve stayed here a few times in the past. It’s expensive but usually worth it, not this time. Maybe wait for renovations to be completed before spending the $. Doubt I will do this again.
