The Gyle

Steer clear! Located right near the train station with a rougher crowd. Exit the front of the hotel and it was frightening at night. Its across the street from a rough park that was occupied what one can only assume to be homeless and druggies. Police were across the street detaining people. We were with kids and this place was awful. Very dissapointing.

The location is great! The staffs are wonderful. We were traveling with the baby and our room below the ground floor smelled like cigarettes. When we explained our situation with the baby, they were very accommodating and changed our room to upper level where there was smoke free. Thanks!

My family and I stayed for 8 days (in 2 rooms). The Gyle was an excellent home base for all of our activities in and around London. The staff became familiar with our family very quickly and we’re very accommodating.

I had a junior suite and it was really noisy both from outside, people talking and inside from upstairs and people passing the door. Hardly had any sleep. Beautiful room and property though and great location But would recommend taking your ear plugs with you.

We were unfortunately very underwhelmed by the Gyle. Much like the Megaro (which is part of the same group) it’s style over substance. A lot of thought has gone into the decor, at the expense of the fundamental guest experience. We had a ‘junior king suite’ which was just a double room with an unusable sitting area separated from the bedroom by a bathroom. The bed was small with a squeaky frame. The mattress was either old or cheap, so when the other person moves you can’t help waking up. It had a noticeable dip in the middle. The bedding was dusty and terrible for allergies. The room itself was incredibly noisy too. You could hear every toilet flush or footstep from upstairs, and guests coming and going all night. We were woken at 7am by the laundry truck too. Overall, we slept horribly and won’t be back. The location is good and staff are friendly. Breakfast didn’t look appealing.
