Check-in was quick, but we are still waiting for the return of the card-deposit charge they took slmost two weeks ago . Peaceful location. Stayed in an external unit along with the family dog, no heating in the room (ok for one night). Very friendly and helpful staff and the evening meal was excellent. It's a dog friendly place, but we didn't find couldn't find any external bins to deposit the bags (staff member kindly took them away and disposed of them). This might explain why others are not clearing up after their dogs.

As a family of six we used the George as a one night stop over. Did exactly what we needed it to do. Room was next to road so slightly noisy. Kids enjoyed breakfast and a good shower. Room was clean and comfortable.

It seemed like a nice enough place but definitely not one to take a toddler and baby to. The facilities were not suitable for a family at all and the staff at dinner didn't seem to understand that a three year old might not be given fizzy drinks and offered him no alternative so we had to go and get him something from our car. The room itself was boiling hot and the bathroom was in a bit of a poor state (the sink was cracked badly and leaked, so made washing up bottles very messy; the tap was loose and parts of it were missing; the grout was so badly damaged and missing in parts and also mouldy that we didn't even dare risk a shower). However, the morning staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Do not recommend for vegans- no vegan options available!

Food options for an evening meal were limited but what we had was very nice although quite expensive. Room was comfortable and clean however we had booked for two double beds and what we got was one double, one single and one tiny much lower to the floor fold out bed. Thankfully my children are only small as the fold out bed wouldn’t have been comfortable or suitable at all for an adult or older child. All of the sockets in our room went off on the night. Staff came along as soon as I called and the issue was sorted with 5-10 minutes.

We loved our 1 night stay at the George. Our room was lovely and looked out over the river Tees and the countryside beyond. It was well maintained and comfortable for our family group. We ate in the hotel and enjoyed the food - not a massive menu though and full English breakfast was good quality. When we arrived and throughout the evening, there were two young people working front of house. They were attentive and friendly throughout and their service should be commended

Not the most helpful of checkins which lasted all of 2 minutes - not told about breakfast times or check out. I think more pre occupied on taking the payment. Room was ok, mattresses were both hard so wasn’t the best nights sleep and we had noisy neighbours, as the walls must be thin- children arguing till near midnight wasn’t the best!!! Woke up with a sore back and a little stiff. Radiator in bedroom wasn’t working so the room felt quite cold compared to the bathroom which was lovely and warm. Room was tired with marks & small holes in the walls. Service was poor at breakfast, but the breakfast was nice, sadly no sausages and bacon left at 9am.. I feel for £122 it was an expensive stay as we were visiting relatives.
