The Executive King room was good size, however we were three people (2 adults and 1 toddler)and there was only one set of towels so I had to phone reception to request more.
Food is one of the worst I had in a long time, think bad pub level but worse. Fish and chips is very greasy and the meat in the burger is worse than Mac Donald’s one.
Ketchup for fries (which were ok) was absolutely disgusting, the worst of the worst.
Food quality is terrible and the bill certainly doesn’t reflect that.
Service at the restaurant is average, someone had to check whether we were waiting for drinks because the order was taken but not brought to the table- by someone else of course.
Shame because location is very central but it’s mostly a business hotel so not a very warm feeling.
Not cheap (£170 for one night) so we won’t return.

The communication by phone was poor- 7 attempts before an answer. Reservation staff and reception did not communicate effectively with each other. Parking at a distance particularly inconvenient with a wheel chair bound family member. Disabled access late at night was unavailable.

RUBBISH PLACE, RUDE STAFF
Last week me and my family of three booked a suite.
We drove really far to get the hotel with expectations knowing the brand to deliver the minimum. It was told that there was parking as it had been advertised. Upon arrive we were told we had to park about 15mins walk in the local shopping centre and then walk back to the hotel on a raining day
Spent over a thousand pounds to be greeted by a rude receptionist, and taken to a room that looked like a lower end 2 star hotel. With the phone and air conditioning not working. The tv falling out of the wall. It was not a suite just a room, it had no living room area, false advertising. It was so small I had to walk on the side to get to the bed. We went back downstairs to cancel booking and get money back. As we refused to stay in such conditions. We were then moved to a real suite with a living room area. With 60% of the suite not functioning properly. The customer service was very poor, you have to wait three hours before they respond after. We came back after a long day business meetings to a messy room. We have to argue for clean towels, bottles of water, tea coffee sugar and biscuits and hotel tooth paste in a 4 star hotel that we are paying 250 a night. I would not recommend staying there. Me and my family have wasted 1500 pounds in 5 days. Even a 2 star Airbnb would have been better than staying at the Clayton. Looks are deceiving and what they have advised is false and should be taken down.

Very nice room, previously we were lucky when upgraded to a suite but not this time! The room was very good though, clean and comfy, though the beds were extremely close to the TV cupboard. We thought maybe we'd eat in the restaurant that evening, but the prices were completely over the top. 19 pounds for a burger? Ridiculous. Also as we were at the bar, a woman went in with a small child who proceeded to run riot around the place whilst her mother was on the phone. The music in the restaurant also seems more suited to a nightclub than a relaxing restaurant. We went to a lovely Italian instead. After all that, the staff are really nice and I would stay again if I got a good room rate. It's also only a few minutes to the train stations.

Great property however the parking lot linked to the hotel which is a 10-15 minute walk was closed on Easter Sunday morning, but not told to us in advance when we checked in. This resulted in us walking to the car park, not getting access to our car then having to take a taxi and arriving late for a very important event which our family members were some of the main participants.

We booked the Clayton Hotel on recommendation from family as they said it would be a great place to stay after our wedding. We were hugely disappointed with the whole experience and won’t be staying again. After having a long day celebrating our special day, we were expecting to have a relaxing night, instead the room was cold and despite trying to change the temperature centrally and in the room, no changes were made. We then had to change the room where they had set the temperature high centrally, but again the room remained cold. It was warmer in the corridors and bathroom than in our actual room. The breakfast was mediocre and we have both experienced better hotel breakfasts in budget hotels. The staff tried to correct the issue but instead of trying to make sure we had a warm room, we were told ‘there’s nothing more we can do’. We won’t be staying here again.

Parking was a BIG issue we booked on basis that reduced rates would be available for hotel residents BUT there was no mentions that the car park in question would be closed at 10pm, which did not help our situation because we would be arriving back to the hotel much later after attending functions for the 2 nights stay at the hotel!
The hotel's reception staff was not helpful neither was the hotel manager other than to continually recite that the the hotel did not have parking of their own & relied on others - which was not the residents concern it was the hotels arrange & this was NOT made clear when i made the booking had i known prior to booking i would have booked elsewhere.
THE ADVERT & THE BOOKING PROCESS WAS MISLEADING!
The Hotel manage made NO effort to understand our predicament of having to spend a considerable amount on parking charges made!
i will be exclating this claim & will also report to the CA.
Very disappointed, we travelled from London to attend family wedding & the whole experience with the Hotel & Expedia put a damper on the events.
My family was annoyed with the inconvenience of the parking & having to walk back to the hotel from the car parking at night with roads busy with party going traffic whos also shouted abuse to my wife & 13 year old daughter as we walked, we felt unsafe & had be very weary of walking back at night!!

My 3rd stay since 2021, while visiting family in Birmingham. I fly in from the USA. Comfortable room albeit small by US standards, but cozy. Had to request additional towels on day 1 for two guests.

My second stay at Clayton, Birmingham. I was in town for a family event. Overall a good visit. Only one comment, rooms should be dusted and vacuumed everyday. The dust balls build up quickly on the fabric bed head boards and carpet edge - very obvious. For allergy sufferers this can, does and did trigger an allergy attack.
