Royal Hotel Carlton

This hotel was overall very good. However, it lets itself down somewhat in a few things. We booked a family room and the bed for the third person was one of those temporary foldable beds, which was not very comfortable. One of the reasons we booked this hotel is that is advertised a spa and pool but we found out the hotel charges €40 to use this. Only open 5-9pm. I understand charging for treatments, etc. according to staff this is normal. It is not as most hotels I stay at do not charge entrants but most importantly it does not state this. Staff were not the most friendly. There was a lot of back and forth for the final bill as initially the would accept that, as a Gold member, we had a $20 voucher for this stay. This somewhat spoiled an otherwise enjoyable stay.

The hotel is lovely - very friendly and helpful staff, and very clean rooms. It is very close to the station and also within walking distance of the historic centre and all main attractions. It is more of a 'conference/business' hotel but was still very welcoming to families. Breakfast was very good!

When we checked in, we were given a free upgrade to a junior suite. The room was huge, with two TVs and a large bathroom. There was a good variety at the breakfast, which was included. The gym on site is excellent--I used a treadmill three times while I was there; the treadmill had a fan and the hotel provided water bottles in the gym for those exercising.

Excellent hotel, very clean, friendly staff. We stayed with family there and walked to the shops and restaurants.

This was a horrible the only thing good was the food. To begin, the site doesn't say that the spa is closed. So if you thought I will have a nice spa to go to is not happening the website does not say a thing. 2nd the unit the air did not work tech came to the unit twice I guess they figure he wanted to go to the spa we will let the room heat like a sauna 3rd the TV's are so old that the channels came blurry and the control was not working. 4th you assume that a four star junior suite would have a comfortable bed but is not the case is about the same as sleeping in the plane you have a terrible night . I left and booked in another hotel for half the price and twice as good.

Excellent place to stay for business or family visit. Close to city center and train station. Nicely renovated.
