Dolphin Spirit Inverness offers two family-friendly boat trips, Mischief (2 hours) and Spirit Cruiser (1 hour 15 minutes), with knowledgeable and humorous guides, ensuring your family has an unforgettable encounter with nature. Ness Islands, a tranquil pair of islands in the River Ness, offers scenic Victorian footbridges and winding trails inhabited by pheasants, wildfowl, and otters, the perfect spot to indulge in some leisurely exploration with your family.
Whin Park, a popular family attraction, boasts 4 adventure play areas catering to kids aged 3-10, an adult-sized trim trail for active grown-ups and teenagers, and the Ness Islands narrow gauge railway. The park also features the captivating Whinter Wonderland every December for toddlers, with various awards and free entrance.
Please note that precautions related to COVID-19, including social distancing measures and limited occupancy, are followed at various attractions to ensure your family's safety during your visit. Be sure to check the latest guidelines before planning your trip.
When to visit
The best time for families to visit Inverness is between April and August when the weather is ideal for outdoor activities and exploration. June, July, and August are the warmest months with the most daylight hours, allowing your family to make the most of your trip.
While October offers the opportunity to avoid crowds and find cheaper deals, winter months (late November to March) are not recommended for a visit. Do also note that May is the best time to visit attractions such as Urquhart Castle, River Ness, Loch Ness by Jacobite Cruises and Ness Islands. And while August has favourable and warm weather, it is the most expensive month for accommodations. As always, it is advisable to travel with your kids during school holidays and choose the best time to visit based on your family's preferences.
