We requested an accessible room for myself as I was in a severe car accident in 2012 & have some minor mobility issues which make taking a lot of steps difficult.
Upon arrival we were told the room we booked wasn't even available & that Expedia didn't share our request for an accessible room. We switched rooms twice before finally getting an accessible room. Upon entering, the room smelled musty. My wife & I figured the smell would dissipate our we'd just grow accustomed to it. I started a cup of coffee for myself as my wife began to heat food for our 8mo, I spotted a large cockroach climbing up the furniture the microwave was placed on & over the remote there. I drew her attention to it where she proceeded to take a photo. We both agreed immediately that we needed to leave as our oldest (2 1/2) was going to be sleeping on the floor in a blow up toddler bed & we wouldn't want her sleeping where cockroaches were.
Additionally, my wife took our daughter to the bathroom while I was loading up to find the water was brown, far too brown to be from rust She also saw a 2nd cockroach on their way out of the bathroom area. We were there less than an hour & let the front desk know we were packing up to leave. The front desk attendant suggested the Comfort Inn down the road.
We have only received about half of our total back from the 3 night stay.
My suggestion? STAY AWAY!
We have a BBB Complaint filed and are fighting for a full refund.

Rating on Hotels.com was not even close to the 8.2 out of over 1,000 reviews. The hotel is very old. Hotel smells musty as soon as you leave the lobby. Upon entering your room all you can smell is whatever product they use to try to cover up the smell. Carpet in hall and rooms is very dirty. Furniture was old and in disrepair. The stool had faux leather that had a hole in it that was covered by a piece of tape. The tub had an antislip mat in the bottom that was peeling up. Under the mat was what appeared to be wet paper that was floating in the water. Towels smelled like the room. Everything is very outdated and needs replaced. Breakfast was nutrigrain bars, kid size yogurt, coffee and juice. We stayed in a great town Blowing Rock which has a lot of nearby attractions for only $5 more a night. The pool was empty and the dirt around it was all dug up. Spend the extra money and stay somewhere else.

I am an experienced global traveler and not adverse to marginal conditions. Upon entering the wing I was staying in I found a family sitting in the hallway with possessions stacked outside. No one from staff was helping. The hallway had the smell of cat urine. I was tired and decided to stay. The room was musty and moldy. I am not allergic but my nose and throat were affected. Carpet, throws, towels needed replacing years ago. Not much sleep that night. It appears this place is about to be demolished and the management is squeezing the last dollar out of the property. Worse than any third world room I have ever stayed in!! Got up at 4 to get the hell out of there.

Stayed for one night with my family. Seems dirty and old. Couldn't take a bath. Closed doors everywhere. No elevator. One night is enough. Too expensive for ehat tou get. Breakfast was the cheapest i've seen in my life.....

Booked this hotel with an Expedia package deal; flight, hotel & rental. Good thing I traveled alone. This Super 8 by Wyndham was not good. This place is old. Only 2 floors, no elevators. The free breakfast is a joke. When you walk into the room, it has a bad smell. It is really disappointing. I would of never booked this place if I would of known the condition. It's not worth any cost. Anyone would complain about this place. And if your married, your wife and kids would not be happy.

Damaged pool area? Are you going to fill-in? Not secured for kids, can fall into empty pool!

The stay was fine and the price was great. I also took my family to the restaurant down the hill and got 10% off for showing my room key.

Check-in was very quick and easy. The person at the desk was very friendly and professional. The problem we experienced was the overpowering smell of cigarette smoke in our hall (and coming into our room), even though the entire hall and our room were clearly marked as non-smoking. We had to buy air freshener to make thee air in a room breathable for our family.
