The worse part was the staff. Not a single friendly interaction with anyone, from the chilly young woman at the front desk to the brusque woman who served us coffee at breakfast. While sitting by the hearth in the lobby, the fire went out and the entire lobby filled with thick smoke. I was just trying to help by trying to reignite the flame in the fireplace so the smoke would stop, something I do all the time at home with our own wood stove. A woman with a thin gray ponytail appeared from the kitchen and began yelling at me to get away from the fireplace and I tried to explain that I was only trying to help. She shouted that if I got hurt I would probably try to sue the inn and they would be responsible, and told me to leave. She was horribly agitated and rude beyond description and acted as though I shouldn’t even be in the lobby and really made me feel unwelcome and made a point of humiliating me in front of the other guests and staff. I’m just glad my children were still in the room. Also, the base boards in the tiny bathroom were filthy as if they hadn’t been wiped down in months. When you opened the windows to get air into the room, there was a thick crust on the sill.

This was the dirtiest inn we have ever stayed at. Carpets weren’t vacuumed. When we got to our room there was an odor. A pillow was on the floor under the bed. Leftover beverages in the fridge and pajamas in a bureau drawer. The place was disgusting and should be closed. The teenager who checked us in was rude and indifferent. I don’t understand the prior reviews and had to apologize to my family for selecting this property.

Room was nice, building is fairly nice, especially for the price. Staff could use some training. In particular, I had a somewhat disappointing interaction when checking out. I asked if late check-out could be possible because my husband was feeling ill, due to side effects of a medication. Front desk plainly said that the hotel was full, so not possible. Adequate response, but a little bit of sympathy (‘I’m so sorry to hear he’s not feeling well’) to someone trying to juggle check-out while caring for a family member would have been a nice (I.e. more human) response.

Nice historic and quaint inn for our short visit to the area. We were traveling with 2 young children and the room we had (deluxe queen) was spacious enough for all of us. Beds were comfortable and clean, and we had good amenities in the room - sparkling water, quality toiletries, however there is no minifridge but we could get ice from the restaurant at the inn. The breakfast and service staff was wonderful. Located close to the Quechee gorge, VINS and a short drive to the Marsh Billings farms where we spent most of our time.

My Wife & stayed one night for a quick get-a-way. We had a Queen Deluxe room. It seemed average in many respects. We did like the charm of the old homestead: seeing the worn thresholds - guessing how many hundreds of times family members had walked the halls, etc. The bed was comfy. The sitting chairs could have been more comfy for long reading sessions. It felt very private, but we could hear doors slamming (actually we later figured it was the automatic door closers - if one is careful you can shut the door w/o any noise. The common room was nicely set up. The high point was dinner. The waitress knew how to make good suggestions. The food was excellent & presented very well. The grounds looked very pleasing; very pastoral and peaceful. The staff seemed accommodating to families. Breakfast was included, but not outstanding, above average buffet, but no stand out signature items or home made treats.

Great place to come back to after a day of skiing. A roaring fire, hot tea and cocoa with a cookie is a nice way to relax from a day out in the cold. Board games are available for play. Bar opens at 5:30pm and dinner starts at 6pm, so you don't need to leave again. Breakfast is included and is a hot buffet of very good quality and variety. My two children always enjoy coming here. Vermont hospitality shines through.
