This was our first stay at the California; became the convenient meeting point for friends who are regular guests at the California (who also recommended that we stay there), and the meeting point for family who recently moved to Las Vegas. We were happy with our room, good amenities and clean. The staff upon check-in and during our stay were friendly and answered all our questions.

The staff was really nice and full of Aloha. The property was easy to navigate and the parking was free. My family and I really enjoyed are stay and would come back again in the future.

It's not really kama'aina or local Hawaiian anymore - I will keep my memories of traveling there from Honolulu with my family during the 1970's and 1980's.
Unlike the 1970's - the California Hotel's hotel guests are overwhelmingly Kupuna ( senior citizens) from Hawaii on package tours...........bag pull for Hawaiian Airlines is at 5.30 in the morning - so be prepared to have your sleep interrupted.
In general, the California Hotel is in shabby condition
1) the pool (or even a sundeck) IS CLOSED on the 13th Floor despite verbal reassurances from the front desk staff and on their website in May 2023 that it was
The front desk staff lied with a straight face to me wih telling me the pool was open
Front desk staff seem uninformed as to why the pool would be open in May and suddenly shut down again. They were snarky in suggesting that I could use the pool at the Orleans Hotel ( which is about 30 miles away)
Rather than hoping, wishing or begging for the pool to be opened ( or re- opened.....?).........it's just easier to stay at a different hotel
It's not really Pono ( correct behavior) to lie to your customers. Hotel refused to refund resort fee of $29.00 per night - even though with the pool closed - there was no resort
Front desk staff was unwilling and unable to explain what services the $29 per night resort fee covered
*
Overall- the Front Desk staff has no Aloha Spirit-rude, hostile, uninformed, bored, untruthful, couldn't care less, unproffes

Very unsafe hotel
My car was vandalised inside their parking lot
No compassion or any contact from hotel about investigating the case until today
Not a place for family
No coffee in the rooms
It has changed in very bad ways

Check-in was fast & friendly. Our room was connecting on both sides & we were unlucky to have a family with 2 noisy young kids who were extremely loud most of the time. Next morning, reception kindly switched us to a quieter room. Much better. Excellent response from them. Not their fault that some guests are noisy.
Shower was good with strong flow. Aircon also good. Comfortable bed, fridge provided which was great.

My nephew said make sure you give a comment about this hotel because most people complain forget to praise. Here is my PRAISE from “hello you like me grab your bags” I felt welcome!!! Our rooms were clean and when we called for towels or blankets they was fast and helpful. How close this hotel was from Fremont was perfect. Go out walk and have fun no need drive stay close and safe. The food was so good Hawaiian breakfast or Saimin for breakfast it was all soo ono!!!Overall California is Awesome hotel!!! My family had a great time and we will stay there again and again.

Airconditioning is very noisy at night. The non-smoking rooms still have a lingering smoke smell. The staff at this hotel are all very friendly. The parking is free - which is great - although you do have to pay a resort fee.
I went to meet family from Hawaii, so this is the place to stay, the price is cheap and it has the necessities.

My family and I enjoyed our stay. Our reservations put us all in different wings of the hotel, but the front desk clerk put us all on the same floor next to each other with adjoining rooms ❤️ Mahalo nui
