Hilton Garden Inn St. Paul/Oakdale

In town for a family funeral. We attempted to check in at 1:30 pm, for 3 rooms, I understand guaranteed check in was not until 4, but front desk attendant said she was saving it for another guest that was checking in early too. Front attendant was rude, not one smile, but the guest ahead of me that was a Caucasian woman; she had a few min conversation, smiling and laughing about the workout room and whether it was opened or not, while I waited patiently. I noticed the ripped and warped furniture in the lobby while waiting. We came back to check in at 7pm, a new attendant was there, wore a jean jacket, no smile, said that they had over booked and since I booked on a 3rd party site I'd have to change one of my room types, it was not an upgrade. The floor I was on had a stench right off the elevator and lingered to my room. It just smelled like that carpet had been never cleaned. The pillows were flat as if never been replaced. At checkout I asked the attendant (same lady that refused our early check-in) said that since I booked 3rd party I'd get receipt from the site. I told her that I just wanted to make sure I wasn't charged incidentals or other hidden charges as I have been before at other establishments, she said she just wanted to "educate" me how it works when I book on 3rd party site. I like booking with 3rd party for perks, I stay at hotels almost monthly and I've done front desk for years... I know how it works too. I hope this hotel gets to read this review.

Our reservation for 2 queen beds was no longer available when we checked in. We were given a king room for 2 adults and 3 kids, but requested a roll away bed which was available and brought to our room.

We requested early check in due to a family health concern and our request was accommodated.

Very disappointing stay. One elevator was down for my entire stay with guests and staff competing for space. Hordes of rampaging children in the hallways at all hours. This was not their usual standard, for sure, but I was happy to move on at the end of my stay.

The hotel is in need of lots of maintenance, Our room was clean but our sons room had a big chip out of the tub the ceiling above the tub had large water spots and started to leak through thank good it was on check out morning. The carpet in hallways was dirty the chairs in lobby were falling apart. The guy that checked us in was friendly but the lady working Sunday morning wasn’t very friendly and they closed the pool on Sunday so the kids couldn’t swim the hot tub was out of order the entire time and the pool area was rather dirty the Pool and hot tub was part of the reason we stayed there. The exhaust fan for kitchen must not work either you could smell the grease in our room and hallways.

It was nice hotel to stay at for a few days while we visited family in the area. The rooms we were in were slightly damaged. For example, one of the closet doors was missing. Breakfast was rather expensive. Overall, the rooms were comfortable and the staff was great!

Nice pool. Hot tub was out of operation but they apologized. Nice clean facility, especially our room. Big lovely lobby area where breakfast is served. (Breakfast is NOT NOT NOT included! Note to Expedia :-) but kids do eat free and since we stayed two nights they comped us w two adult breakfast vouchers. Very nice. Oh, there's also a washing machine and dryer for guests ($1 per load each machine) also handy

First time staying at this Hilton Garden Inn and the experience was good. Room is clean and bed is comfortable. The pool is nice and my kids likes it.
