This was a horrible experience. Claimed to be family friendly only to find out when checking in that you must be 18 years or older to use the pool. The ONLY reason for our trip was for my 8 yo daughter to have a pool to swim in, stay in a “fancy” room, and go to some attractions in the area. Our room was outdated, not thoroughly cleaned, and very underwhelming. When I spoke to the front desk and two different managers, they were very impolite and refused to offer us any refund so we could switch hotels for the remainder of our stay in the city. I spent a lot more money than usual on this hotel expecting it to be a nice treat for my daughter and I have never been so disappointed in a hotel and the horrible “customer service” I received. I would NEVER go back and I make sure to share my experience with anyone who tells me they are planning a trip to Detroit. Expedia staff was very friendly trying to assist me with getting out of my multiple night reservation so we could go somewhere else with a pool we were allowed to use but the hotel refused to budge or offer any kind of refund. Terrible, terrible experience from this hotel staff.

Initial room assignment was replaced after excessive dust dirt and hair found throughout room especially perimeter, replacement room in near same condition with furniture simply worn out and no effort on cleaning behind furniture leaving food and property along with thick layers of dust. Purchased second room for family which appeared to be slightly better but still nowhere near the regular $500 a night. This is a casino and that is probably where it excels as the hotel is no better than any two star hotel in line with vintage Red Roof or old Knights Inn because of the dust/dirt and worn appearance of the rooms.

Stayed here for 2 nights while passing through Detroit. The only negative I think was that when I booked the rooms it did not tell us that children under 14 were not allowed in the pools. That was a huge negative for our stay. The kids were very disappointed, we thought this would be a fun spot for the whole family at least they could swim and have fun too but it’s not kid friendly really. It’s a casino so it’s geared towards adults obviously but we’ve never been to one that didn’t allow kids in the pool. Aside from that the food was great and the entire place was beautiful and well maintained. The beds could have been softer they were firmer than I expected.

I didn’t like kids have to be 14 to swim in the pool. My son who is 7 was ready to go swimming that evening we arrived. Only to be told you have to be 14. Then I ran into another family with younger kids. They seen us with our swim stuff on a stopped be to say ……..isn’t it crazy we had no idea you can’t take your kids swimming.

It should be mentioned that only people 14 and older are allowed to use the pool. We booked this hotel (which is more expensive than any hotel in the area) for the pool. My kids were disappointed and so we were considering how much we spent for 2 nights at this hotel.

This was the WORST experience I have ever had stying at a hotel and I have traveled a lot! We arrived at the hotel and of the 7 rooms we had reserved they did not have any ready. We checked in 2 hours after our expected arrival time so this was disappointing to say the least. We were also traveling with small children and this made it difficult. No apologies were given and the staff was very rude. We eventually had to have a manager come over to hrlp us and we were told that our being upset about the rooms not being ready was the problem rather thst their bad attitudes, poor communication, and their inability to accept responsibility for their shortcomings. We ordered food from the ONLY place that was available to ordef food. We were told 20 min for the food to be ready. After 1 hour and 15min we were advised thrir system had gone down and they didn't realize they had not made our food despite multiple inquiries as to where our food was and what wax taking so long. I spoke to another manager who offered no apologies but said that some people had to wait even longer than us so I guess they felt that was acceptable. My 3 year old niece was made to leave the pool by staff despite both her parents being CPR certified and accompanying her. They said there was no lifeguard on duty and therefore she was not allowed and no one under 14 was allowed in the pool because it is considered a "spa". We had to get a room at fort poncetrain down the road so the kids could swim

They do not make it clear that kids under 14 aren’t allowed to swim there period. It’s a small blurb. They ruined our whole family vacation by not allowing our five year old to swim with us there. Drunk loud and the area is shady. Not near anything DO NOT STAY HERE

There is NOTHING for under 21 guests. The listing says 'family friendly". It is not. Our teens were barred from using the pool, the hot tub, the spa. The multiple restaurants and lounges they describe are 21 and over, no exceptions. Our kids were able to walk down to the front desk and about 50 ft past that-they were miserable. They were told to walk outside, aroung the block, in the rain, hauling bags, because there is no entrance for minors from the parking area.
Upon check- in on Friday, we left for a show immediately and did not find this out until the following morning. I spoke to the front desk and a manager who refused to cancel our remaining reservation, explaining that this is an "adult only facility", the opposite of what they advertise.
That morning, we called expedia to ask them to intervene and they were unable. They also did not acknowledge that their listing also says "family friendly" and lists off about a dozen activities that are barred for minors.
This is an expensive hotel. There was a single pillow for each guest, no fridge, no microwave - but if you want anything that most hotels supply as basics, you can have it, for a helfty charge. You will be nickeled and dimed to death if you need anything.
The grounds and hallways and elevators were dirty and gross. The outside facilities smelled like urine and weed everywhere. The staff was super nice, which is the only reason I didn't rate this as a zero.

We came to Detroit for business and wanted to be down town. We chose this facility for the pool and multiple restaurants. When we checked in we were told that our children were not allowed in the pool, even with parents. You needed to be at least 14. Nor were our children allowed at most of the restaurants because all but one were in the casino. It should have been advertised as an adult hotel. We were unable to hook up our Roku Tv because they want you to purchase their movies. Then we were charged and additional “resort” fee at checkout. We did not enjoy our experience at the grand.

The property listed a pool in the description and that was a large part of why we selected this property for our family, but we were advised at check in that no one under 14 would be allowed in the pool. My girls came along on a business trip to swim! We were very disappointed.
