Best Western DeWitt

Strange smell throughout. Pool was cold and too deep for kids, hot tub had been removed and tiles over. Sauna was just a storage room full of junk. Storage rroms full of junk throughout. Handle was broken on drawers, all furniture beat up. Mini fridge did not work. Will not stay again. Breakfast was so-so.

Very basic motel in central Michigan. Not convenient to download Dewitt. Restaurants closest to hotel were average at best. Found a great family owned restaurant downtown Dewitt.

We checked in and the building lost power within 20min. It came back on but was out for good ten minutes later. While I understand the cause was beyond their control, how the situation was handled was not. Our stay began with dirty towels in the bathroom which makes you question the overall cleanliness of the establishment. When the power went out for the second time we asked the gentleman at the desk if we could check out (we had family nearby we could stay with) and receive a refund. He was polite and obviously overwhelmed, he contacted the manager who said that we could not receive a refund because we had already checked in. I understand that systems were down so they'd be unable to do an immediate refund however we just wanted a credit/refund when power resumed. Again, we were told no by management. We opted for the hotel because we wanted this to be a fun last getaway of summer for our children. Instead, we had dirty towels, no access to the pool (which was why this hotel was chosen), no air conditioning (it was in the 90s), no access to showers, no breakfast in the am, and no way to charge our phones. In addition, when the reservation was made I had requested a main floor room due to a leg brace. We received a second floor room which was acceptable when we had access to the elevator however when we packed up and left I had had to struggle with stairs which wouldn't have been an issue had the request been honored.

My check in was easy and all staff was pretty nice. I wasn’t impressed by the breakfast, the tv would hardly work we had To keep it on all the time for it to work when we wanted to watch it bc it was froze up, the tub didn’t have a way to latch so my child could take a bath, they didn’t answer the phone to the front office when I tried to call after Multiples call down.

Check in was quick and employee was friendly. The stay was relatively quiet except for a couple times. Convenient location for what we were in town for and a good price. Certain hallways smelled like weed, the breakfast gave everyone in my family a stomachache, second day the shower water got lukewarm at best.

When we arrived at the hotel the computer system was down so they could not charge my card at the time of check in. The front desk attendant put us in a room that had peeling ceiling paint in the bathroom and the air conditioner did not work. I waited for over 45 mins for them to call me down to run my card. The front desk attendant then said he put us in a “bad room” and moved us to a different room. Once we got to the other room there was open old bags of pop corn shoved behind the night stand. I actually got stuck in the bath room cause the handle did not work. My friend had to call down and have them come up and shove the door open and it’s his shoulder. Before I could even get out of the bathroom he was gone with no apologies for the inconvenience and safety risk of possibly being stuck in the bathroom till housekeeping the next day as I did not have my phone to call for help or what would have happened if I was a lone or with a small child?

The pool was freezing. My 5year old could not stay in any longer than 10 minutes and she was shivering. There was a group of guests with kids in the next room, that were rowdy, up all night screaming, calling other rooms' phones, out in the hallway screaming and running until 4am. Did not get any sleep.
