You can tell why they are about to renovate the hotel. It was nice, but average. We really enjoyed the suite aspect as we have children so it’s nice to be separated at night when they have an earlier bedtime than us. Breakfast, amenities, and room were all average. My complaint has to be that there was hair in the shower and what looked like sand on the bottom so I don’t think it was cleaned. We were only there to sleep so we didn’t use the shower which is why I brought it up when I checked out and not before. However, I told the supervisor and all I got was “okay”. I was not looking for a refund, but an apology and promise to do better would have been appreciated. Other than that, it was a good, average stay.

Check-in was smooth without issues and front desk was courteous. The room was exactly how I reserved it. The issues were the room had a smell. The moment I walked inside, the smell was strong. The toilet in the bathroom works but constantly runs and the lever is damaged. The room could have used a vacuum cleaning and there was no housecleaning during our stay. I even left a tip after the first night but no cleaning was done when we returned. The breakfast was fine with all of the options. My family enjoyed the food. We tried to request for clean towels but nobody answered, and just kept ringing. I called both front desk and housekeeping. Parking was not gated but felt safe. There were no issues of finding parking. Overall, I would not return again for the price they charged me. I feel like if I am paying that much, I should at least have clean towels and daily housekeeping.

The family and I really enjoyed the area. It was quiet, safe, and lots of stores/restaurants within a 10 mins or less drive. Sea world, SD Zoo, and Legoland were all 15-25 mins away.
The staff was mixed. Some were friendly, some not so much. The first night, we were not checked in properly, had to back to front desk and another lady said check was not completed.
It was a 4 night, 5 day stay for us, & we did not know you had to make reservations for a room cleaning 24 hours in advance. We found out when we were going out for the day and informed front desk cleaning staff can come whenever they like. The man behind the front desk had a befuddled look, & checked our room number & said, I don't see a reservation. I said reservation? He rolled his eyes at me and said, "yes, you need a reservation to clean rooms." Very strange. I did not know this was a thing. Another staff said you only qualify for room cleaning if you stay 5 days or longer. Again, strange.
Any room amenities you need (shampoo, soap, etc) you have to walk to front desk and they have all amenities in a drawer. So asking for toilet paper is quite embarrassing while others are checking in, so be prepared for that.

The check in turned out to be a disaster. My son and family had a separate reservation for 2 rooms, including a needed 2 queen bed suite. When I checked in first your desk clerk had me under my son’s name but I corrected him and gave him my name, spelling, driver’s license and credit card, yet he seemed preoccupied and wasn’t paying attention.Nevertheless,
he gave me the suite with 2 queens. When my son checked in later he was told there were no more 2 queen suites. Because of the number of people in his family that would not work. Your manager had to give a “complimentary extra room, all because your desk clerk didn’t know what he was doing. At check out it got worse. My son was charged for my prepaid room and I was charged an additional amount. When your desk clerk (Mario- not the same clerk who checked us in) checked us out he was very professional and courteous and made courtesy adjustments to our bills which was appreciated but cost Homewood Suites money all because of the INCOMPETENCE of the clerk that checked me in.
Other than that you breakfast was terrible with stale muffins, artificial eggs and cold sausages.

Overall, we were there to attend the annual Angelman Syndrome Foundation walk, held in San Diego this year. It was conveniently located at the park right down the street. Our room was upgraded from a King to two Queens to accommodate two children that came with us. The only problem was that the room smelled like furniture oil, which was a very strong smell and somewhat overcoming. That did not stop us from staying. Everything else was great! The staff were 200% in customer service, the food was good and the staff cleaning the food area were courteous as well. Really enjoyed the time.

The hotel is located in the middle of all the destinations you might want to visit around San Diego. The staff was very courteous and accommodating. Morning breakfast was very convenient with selection of cereal, scrambled eggs, bagels, waffles yogurt, juice etc.. However, dinners were, for the most part, not eatable. The sheets in the room were clean, but quite a few were ripped. Kitchen is pretty small and did not have a stove, only cook top.
When taking showers, the tub was filled with water, and shower head was not removable, which makes it very hard to shower children.

We absolutely loved staying here. The room was very clean and cozy. We are a family of 5 and had plenty of space in the 2 Queen+ sofa bed room. The kitchenette was perfect for my always-snacking children! It’s very close to the beach (15 min drive- we went to La Jolla shores multiple times and it was super easy to change at the hotel in between since it’s close) and a nice area. Staff was very accommodating. The breakfast is not bad for a free breakfast but a little bland. Enough options for everyone so it works! They have a little store for things you may need like snacks or medicine like Tylenol or antacid. Perfectly accommodating. We recommend dining at Moms Pizza and Pasta (5 min drive)- it’s very cozy and quaint and the owner and his staff are lovely. The food was delicious! And if you have leftovers, you can always bring them back since you have a fridge in the room. Fantastic. Highly recommend!
