Best Western Surf City

This motel was fine for our needs, a family birthday get-together. It is close to the family residence as well as to grocery stores and other simple shopping needs. Nice to have breakfast on site. Nothing fancy, but clean and functional.

Check in was good. Hotel accommodated my needs. Problem was the person staying next to my room was a transient. VERY weird person that has been there for some time. Tried talking to my young kids. She actually entered my room while I was grabbing the suitcases from the car. The hotel refused to refund me. My kids 1 week later are still traumatized from this short 5 min stay. We left immediately. My understanding is the city gives homeless vouchers to stay here to clear the streets. STAY FAR AWAY .. BEWARE ...

We picked this hotels' location so that we could be very close to family that we were visiting in Huntington Beach. When we first checked in, we were given a room that was in a dark hallway and the window looked out to the only elevator on the property. When I told them this was NOT acceptable and that I didn't want a room that looked into a dark hallway, they did their best to find another room - even tho the hotel was maybe 1/4 full! After 10 minutes, with sighs and deep breaths searching, I got a room on the 2nd floor looking outside - this was after I turned down another room. There wasn't a place to put your bags or suitcases other than on he floor. There was no coffee table in front of the sofa so take-out food and/or drinks had to go on the floor also. I was told they had a nice breakfast but never wanted to try it.The only reason we stayed here was the 4.8 rating, which I now question. I could tell they were in the process of some renovations but our room was not acceptable.

It was very pleasant and fun for the kiddos. We are nearby every where we needed to be. Great stayed

The property is dirty and not maintained. The lobby is dirty and the staff tries but are not very helpful. Everything is referred to a property manager that seems to be never on site. Our bathroom was dirty with no towels, a used bar of soap, empty toiletry containers, a shower mat with mold and pink slime under it, and urine and pubic hairs on the toilet. We had to clean the bathroom before we could move in. The towels are old and thin. The bed has one thin blanket. The furniture, including a couch, are filthy and need to be replaced. The landscape is not maintained. The WIFI was not working in spite of the desk clerk thinking it was. The breakfast was dismal with few choices. There were rotten apples and oranges in the buffet. Yogurt was in a bulk container vs. individual servings. A few pieces of bread and one cereal was available. No juice. Although there is a Best Western sign out front, this property does not come close to meeting the standards of a Best Western. Although the location is convenient, there is a large daycare next door so be prepared for kids screaming all day on nice weather days.

First off thank goodness I had an alcohol wipe handy to clean the poop skid off the light switch in the bathroom. Next I was awakened by sirens blasting down Beach Boulevard and so I asked to switch rooms and was told “no” since we had already gotten our things out. There were strange chunks of debris under the carpet large enough to be noticeable. Blanket was nothing more than the thickness of a very thin towel with a sheet above and below it. Run down and disappointing.

Had a great experience! Guest service was awesome rooms were big with plenty of room for my family to spend a couple days.
