The Hand is an interesting old building in a lovely setting in the town by the river.Breakfast was good, plentiful with a good selection of hot and cold options. The staff were helpful and courteous. The family room we booked for 1 night was clean and had all the basics but was definitely in need of updating. We would have appreciated a pack of biscuits to accompany the generous supply of drinks. The bathroom would benefit from modernising.A shower over the bath with a curtain feels a little basic these days. We found our room overlooking the courtyard at the back was noisy in the morning when cleaning began at about 5am so our sleep was quite disturbed.Maybe rooms at the front or church side would be better. All things considered the Hand is a bit overpriced but is ok for an overnight stay and choose a room at the quiet side.

The hotel was very clean. The family rooms were very spacious with a big bathroom. The cooked breakfast was the best I have tasted in a long time. Lovely little beer garden out the back of hotel across a small road. There is no lift so not suitable if you have problems climbing stairs or request a ground floor room. No problems parking the car and we arrived after 2pm.
