Nice hitel. Friendly and helpful staff. Good location in town. We were visiting Dumfries House so very handy. Nice breakfast with good choice. Would recommend to friends and family.

Entrance to hotel is AMAZING! High class. Our room was on 2nd floor. Lift only goes to the 1st floor, then a walk, then the stairs. Weren't told this so took the lift, had to come back down. Receptionist saw us coming out of lift, THEN told us how to get to our room. NO APOLOGY No offer of help - we're both mid/late 60s. Signs to the room were not good - took 1 or 2 wrong turns. Room + bed were small. Bad lighting. A nice standard lamp WAS there, but not near any socket. We moved it, didn't help though. Small window onto a slate roof. All publicity pics had curtains in rooms - OURS had a blind. 1 chair + 1 VERY small armchair. Double room + only ONE chocolate drink sachet? Weren't told how to turn on electricity, took us 10 mins to work it out. Most of the bathroom fittings were loose! No toilet brush. Saw a brown streak on a towel, took it to reception. told we'd get another. NO APOLOGY. 1/2 of the TV remote buttons didn't work. 1/2 of the channels didn't either. No BBC2 or Sky News. 2 people came to fix it, but couldn't. NO APOLOGY No lactose-free milk. No offer to get it, as in other hotels. Cereals were cheap, sweet stuff for kids anyway. Buying a drink at the bar, my sleeve got soaked on the bartop. Asked for a cloth to mop it up myself. NO APOLOGY. 2x at reception, had to wait several mins for her to finish on the phone. Short staffed? In such a hotel? Unsurprisingly, we weren't asked at the end if we had enjoyed our stay. Nobody seemed to care.

Disappointing stay for family wedding. The receptionist was lovely and it promised to be a good stay but room was not entirely clean- hairs in bathroom and carpet in room didn’t look hoovered. The breakfast poached egg was cooked in so much vinegar it was inedible and the bacon was too hard to cut. There was no sugar for cereals. The wedding meal was terrible and a complete rip off for the bride and groom. The pate tasted ‘bought in’ and had little flavour. The chicken was so dry my knife could not cut through it. The peppercorn sauce was synthetic in taste and covered the whole plate so that everything tasted of it. The mash had lumps in it. I tried to put my spoon into the brownie and it pinged back at me as the brownie was rick solid despite floating in the totally melted ice cream. The service was so poor and I had no wine for the toast. The wine eventually arrived during the main course and the waiter poured it into the wrong glass while also spilling it over the tablecloth. There was a hug if water but no water glasses. The happy couple should have a refund as they did a tasting before the wedding but what was served was unacceptable and nothing like the tasting. There was a rude employee who refused to let me in for the meal as I had gone up my room fir something and when I returned everyone was in the dining room. The top table were bit in not had the piper started but this man closed the doors and said I could not enter as it was time to eat. Very stressful.

Staff were lovely, very helpful and efficient. Always happy and smiley and ready to help. Food was delicious, we had a 3 course evening meal and breakfast was included in the price which was really nice. The hotel bar was busy both nights we stayed due to weddings being held there. This didnt bother us and it made the atmosphere but there were lots of children running around and up late just because it was a wedding. We were fine with this - i am a teacher but this may bother some people. The only down side to our stay was the shower wasnt great, a little trickle of water. Also the walls very thin and we could hear the conversations of our neighbours and when entering and leaving their room it felt like they were entering and leaving our room. But overall it was superb and we would definitely stay again!
