We had a very spacious family room with our own balcony that looked over the gardens and sea. The room was very clean and comfortable and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

The breakfast provided by the The Cliffden Hotel was awful. We attended breakfast at different times during the week, the serving trays were always empty. Even on mornings we were at breakfast early many of the items from breakfast menu that we paid for were unavailable or had run out. There were never any cups or glasses and we even had to clean our own table before we sat down to eat. On one morning, two staff members were swearing at each other in front of us. During the check-out process the manager confirmed that they receive lots of complaints from guests about their breakfast. During our visit we had periods were we had no hot water. When we spoke to reception from the phone in our room we were told there was a sign on the reception desk about the problem. The only time we used reception was for checking in and checking out. There were no other signs anywhere in the hotel. It appears that letting guests know that the water would be off was just not important to the management. I booked a four night break at from Monday 15th to Friday 19th May 2023 for my wife and I, and our three tiny pet dogs. I opted not to take cancellation insurance. Due to a family funeral we had to arrive one day late, missing one of the four nights. I called in advance and let the hotel know I would be arriving 24 hours late. I did not ask for, nor expect a refund of any kind. Upon check-out I had to settle the bill and pay £30 per night for my pets stay. It was a total shock that the ho

The good. This is a fabulous place, dog friendly, clean, good breakfast and great staff. Wonderful grounds and close to the beach and town. The bad. We were in a family room 203. The shower was so slow and we had to let it run for a while to warm up. The bed is really, really lumpy and uncomfortable, mattress needs changing badly. So no sleep possible. Such a shame and so disappointing. We’d stay again but not in that bed.!!!

Well trying to be positive, the hotel has a nice classic feel about it and it in a lovely location. However the hotel had WAY too many guests. On the final day for breakfast we had to wait for a table, then wait for a chair so we could sit down, then wait for a bowl to be able to eat and wait for glasses and cups to become available. There is only one slow hot drinks machine that all guests had to share so that meant long queues for hot drinks as well. There was no room service due to restrictions but that meant we repeatedly had to go to receptions and queue for clean towels, extra milk or tea bags etc. So it felt that we spent a lot of time queueing. Parking is overloaded too, so although we were lucky and got a space, other quests with children ended up parking out on the street. For the evening meal (which was £15 for three courses) the starter was among the worst food I have ever been served in a hotel, when we asked the next day if we could just pay for one course we were told "No you have to pay the full £15 even if you only have one course - but you don't have to eat it all". So sadly I don't really think I could recommend this hotel.
