If you’re looking for a hotel in the “artistic” side of Athens, the Wyndham Grand is surrounded by graffiti-covered buildings in a rough neighborhood. I wouldn’t recommend a nighttime stroll here unless you’re into urban adventures. The hotel sits on a noisy street, so don’t expect peace and quiet—car horns and police sirens are your constant companions.
The room itself was a letdown. The curtains were beat up, requiring some DIY skills to block out the sunlight. Cleanliness was questionable, with dusty surfaces and a scratched-up bathtub. For the price, the room didn’t meet expectations.
The hotel boasts a pool, but it’s so small it might as well be a large bathtub—good luck getting in with the crowds during a hot Athens summer.
Service? Let’s just say it was memorable. Our check-in was delayed because the room wasn’t ready, which set the tone for the rest of the stay. When we finally got a room, the window wouldn’t close, and it took three requests before someone fixed it. We were three people, but the child’s bed wasn’t prepared, and it took two reminders to get it set up.
In summary, I’d suggest staying in a nicer neighborhood, choosing a hotel with better amenities, and finding a place where the service doesn’t feel like an obstacle course.

Wonderful rooftop breakfast with such a beautiful view of Athens and the Acropolis. Very clean and professional/ friendly staff. Would stay here again and recommend it to friends/ family.

The Hotel was really good, I had the junior suite room 652. The view was fantastic of the Acropolis at night. The roof top bar was amazing. The only downside was the pool was closed, but I new that before I arrived. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. The only issue was that your about a 20 min walk into the centre of the city. But if you like walking your ok. They do have taxi cabs outside to take you anywhere you want. Overall a fantastic 3 night stay.

Hotel is excellent. Rooms are large and have every amenity, including bath robes, iron, safe, coffee, even an umbrella. Location is close to Metro and the Hop on bus stops right outside. Plus a nice family restaurant across the road. The views from the ninth floor are amazing. Only negative was the breakfast. The choice and presentation are very good, however all the hot food was lukewarm at best, as are the plates, so cold by the time you get it to the table. Another problem was every day you had to wait outside the restaurant for someone to come and unlock the door. Even though it was minutes past the opening time.

Read mixed reviews but decided to try. Do not stay here. Wyndham grand (WG) is Sold as a 4* but it’s more 2* in one of the worst, unsafe, areas of Athens!! Arrived to be told there were issues with our room & we were being moved to a hotel that was 25 minutes away. We were meeting family in Athens so declined this. After much ‘debate’ we ended up in the Hyatt Athens the WG eventually agreed to pay our taxi costs to/from the Hyatt.
Next day back at WG - Room was basic, a real lack of attention to detail - toilet roll holder dirty & falling off, no tea bags or coffee & empty boxes for vanity kits.
Arrived at ground floor restaurant for breakfast but nothing there apart from empty plates & paper cups so we asked at reception & were abruptly told ‘floor 9’. Went to 9th, gave our room number before being told ‘you have continental breakfast, do not eat hot food’. I’m coeliac and need a gluten free diet, despite contacting the hotel beforehand the food offering for gluten free was awful. I was given 3 slices of soggy GF bread that was obviously defrosted & nothing else. There was nothing else there that was GF
Back @ our room later that night, found our room key missing, toilet roll, shampoo, shower gel not replenished. Cushions & bed runner from our bed had been taken from the room - asked twice but got nothing. Staff not overly friendly & it’s in one of the roughest most dangerous areas of Athens - avoid avoid avoid, stay at the Hyatt, much nicer hotel & fab for gluten free

Not the standard of a Wyndham, not a 5* hotel. Barely a 3*
Rude reception staff, dirty and disorganised, whilst set in a rundown location. Saw druggies with needles.
We organised a transfer from the airport to the hotel. The driver was not there. After waiting 20 minutes we called the hotel to ask where the driver was? Were told that he would be there within the hour and check-in is until 3pm.
The driver turned up after 15 minutes, saying he had gone for a coffee.
Check-in was a rude experience. We requested adjoining rooms as one of our kids has ADHD and at times requires assistance.
They assigned us rooms at different ends of the corridor.
They insisted there was nothing that they could do about it as it was on availablity only. I insisted that this was a requirement at booking and I telephoned ahead & demonstrated the email where they did guarantee the adjoining rooms. I would not have booked the hotel if not.
They still refused.
The day after I complained again to the manager, and they move us much closer.
In our room there was a dirty towel on the bathroom floor from a previous guest.
The dirt on the floor was unbelievable.
Was promised VIP gifts. Didn't receive them. Asked at reception about the gifts, still didn't receive them.
Hotel was generally dirty. From lobby to restaurant.
Breakfast was awful.Tables were not cleaned from the previous guests & food on the floor. Areas around the hot food and yogurts was full of dust general filthy coffee machine.

Everything about the property was good but they charged me extra ($$$) for my kids to stay in the same room, in spite of being under the maximum capacity for the room.

From the moment we stepped into the hotel, the service was terrible. The front desk was not friendly and indifferent. Our room was a decent size but the bathroom was dirty. The rain shower is awful as it’s takes up the entire shower space making it difficult to wash hair and soap body. The countertops in the bathroom were filthy and when we voiced our concerns, the front desk was indifferent again. Housekeeping left their cleaning supplies and no towels for us the following day. The breakfast buffet was average. Don’t waste your money. Go to the bakery across the street. It’s so good! I would not recommend this hotel to family and friends.

This is NOT a five star hotel, be warned. It is dated, carpets in halls smell bad, and hotel is in a crummy part of the city. The reception greeting was underwhelming and in fact he was unhelpful . Building was old, looked like built in 70s or 80s. Shower in bath room can barely fit a child let alone adult, room quality itself is 4 star max. We cancelled the second resort at this hotel and went to a different hotel 20’min away. They charged us one night penalty too, unnnecessay as they were falsely advertising 5 star. Be warned everyone!

Not 5-star quality.
A trainee that was under no direct supervision performed my check-in; he did not even inform me of the property's amenities, etc. It was when I remembered that my room included breakfast and I returned to the desk to inquire that I was given that information sheet regarding what times specific amenities open/close and where they are located. To make matters worse, I was overcharged for the accommodation tax. Fortunately, I was able to resolve this by speaking with another agent who aptly provided a refund.
The room was well decorated and spacious and the bed was very comfortable however the air quality from the ventilation system was poor; after my first night, I woke with a sore throat. The poor air quality eventually led to a sinus infection that I had to deal with for the duration of my stay. The soundproofing of the rooms is also poor; you can hear every person passing or child playing in the hallway; I also had the fortune of being woken up around midnight by a group of Latin women shouting at each other.
Housekeeping seemed a bit lax, my face basin had water stains from prior stays; fresh towels were provided but the old ones were often not taken unless left on the floor. The floor in the bathroom was mopped but the remainder of the room wasn't vacuumed. When the bed was made, the throw pillows and coverlet were just left in a corner.
