The Sylvia Hotel is a family favorite. We stay here every time we come to Vancouver. Super warm and friendly staff. Great live entertainment in the lounge on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays (I believe), Great history to the place. Can’t beat the location for walking distance to Stanley Park. And right across the street from English Bay. Love it!

The oldest hotel in Vancouver in the beautiful English Bay neighbourhood, is like an oasis in a busy city. Staff and friendly and like family to me

Great area if you prefer to stay in an area with community. English Bay has lots to see do and dine. Safe in my own experiences and we’ve stayed at the Sylvia more than 10 stays. Sometimes with other family

Overall, we loved this hotel. Old and cool. The only time it became mildly unpleasant is when we had specific requests at the reception desk. Once it was a linguistic struggle, just a basic communication breakdown. Another time we made a request about restaurants children might enjoy, and the response was, "I don't have kids, so I don't look for that." Families stay at the hotel, don't they? Otherwise, it was a really enjoyable hotel and restaurant. We would stay here again.

I have been staying at The Sylvia for many years. It’s proximity to the beach and many eateries make it the perfect weekend getaway for me and my family.

I had a beautiful partial view of the ocean and the support staff, cleaning and room service were warm, friendly and nice. Food was delicious! Checking in was a little unsupportive- definitely not a good choice for anyone with mobility issues- any one over 40 or wrangling children after a long journey/time change etc. Stairs at entry and no help getting luggage into hotel or up to room. Employee got into elevator with me with no offer to help or guide, actually made me a little nervous. Probably not his job to help me, but he could have offered to get someone or at least been friendlier. Front desk service was noncommittal at best. I think they are overworked with the weather improving-definitely had a brusque vibe. Requests for extended stay denied without apology or regret and no offers to help with any questions about other options, amenities of the hotel, or the area. Ended up being a pleasant stay after a bit of a rough landing.

The Sylvia is a Vancouver treasure and it’s location on English Bay is superb. A heritage building, it has been renovated over the years to keep the rooms modern and comfy but still within reach of the families who have stayed there for generations. Good food in the restaurants with gorgeous views and some outdoor seating.
