We were scheduled for a two night stay , had a late night with family. Was awaken around 5:30 to a barking dog couple doors down hall it continued nonstop the housekeeping was aware of what was going on but dog continued to bark finally at 1:00 we had enough we packed up and checked out. Front desk was aware of the problem. They gave me a business card with the gm number told me to call they would do something fir me. We have family in the are and always use Holiday Inn but after that experience not so sure about next time.

Our room smelled like a dirty foot, mixed with mildew. We asked for spray and the mustached front desk person came up with a spray bottle, sprayed the floor in a few spots, and said that should do it, and left. Room continued to smell horrible afterwards. Mustached front desk guy seemed inconvenienced every time we had a problem. The second day the pool went out of commission which was the entire reason we even chose that hotel to begin with. Our bathtub didn’t drain properly, it took 30 minutes in between bath and showers to get back in. The WiFi was incredibly slow, it would take 10 minutes in between loads of any webpage. The cleaning crew skipped our room the first two nights so we had to take our own trash down and request more towels and washcloths. We didn’t get our room vacuumed for two nights, which makes it difficult to work with when traveling with toddlers. We stayed for three nights total and never got our sheets or bedding changed at all, nor did we get a refill k-cup for our coffee maker once. The complimentary body wash in our room stayed empty the entire stay never got a refill. The workout area stayed without water the entire time. All in all, the room was 110 a night but I wouldn’t even recommend it to someone for 30 dollars a night. Save your money and go somewhere else. I will never return to this hotel chain in Ashland or any holiday inn express ever again after this experience.

Convenient for visiting family in the area. Quiet most of the days I stayed. Noisy kids on one weekend day.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was hot and tasty!

This was a great hotel! The lady and man at the front desk were so nice and understanding! The breakfast was awesome too! I really enjoyed my time! The tv didn’t work but they had us switch rooms to a tv that worked and even one closer to my family!!!

I was traveling with my two young daughters. I was a little concerned with how little parking there was in the front. It was a bit scary, when we got back from dinner, that we had to park behind the building in the dark. There were no clear entrances into the building from the back parking lot (I did see them the next morning), so we had to walk around the building in the dark to the front. So I guess just know that the entrances are there, just not obvious?
Our room was a good size and the beds and pillows were comfortable. The shower pressure was good and the water was hot.
A warning to parents with small kids, it’s very difficult to wash their hands in the bathroom. There’s a decorative part on the front of the sink (at least in our room) that pushed so far out that my girls couldn’t reach the sink to wash their hands or brush their teeth. So I had to hold them up, which was inconvenient. I guess you could bring one of those little folding stools to get around this annoyance though.
The staff was friendly enough and the breakfast the next day was fine. There is a station for fresh pancakes, although we didn’t use that. Be warned, the coffee at breakfast was the worst I’ve ever had.
Overall, it was a good place to stay for the price.

Front desk and food service was great. Breakfast was great. Housekeeping is my only complaint. Room was dirty and had a slight odor. Walls were dirty. The comforter on the sleeper sofa was dirty in the suite (used sofa bed for our kids) and one bed bedsheets seemed reused from previous guest as there were crumbs and spots when sheets were pulled back. Front desk was great at giving us new sheets.

Upon check-in, cleanliness issues were readily apparent. Stained mattress covers, dog food and old dust on the floor. It appeared that the room hadn't been properly cleaned in quite a while. To top it all off, there was what appeared to be a turd. See the photos.
Christy from the front desk was extremely helpful, obviously distressed at the condition of the room, and very apologetic. I feel sorry for her having to deal with a cleaning staff that didn't even make a basic attempt at readying a room.
We weren't taking a chance on another room in this hotel, let alone Ashland. We decided to finish our trip out that night and sleep in our own beds, a six hour drive away.
Luckily the front desk and Hotels.com was great in approving this refund.
Holiday Inn Express as a chain seems to be declining in consistency for us. In the past, HIX was reliable and dependable. On this trip, one other HIX stay was just OK, but with a low quality breakfast. We used to be able to rely on that for family trips. I'm disappointed the chain has slipped this much.
