The hotel was great, with a Scottish castle look and feel on the outside and the lobby. The rooms were very comfortable and the staff felt like a big family.

When we checked in we found that in this 100 room hotel there is no bell man to help with bags. We both have bad backs so this was not great news. It was 8 pm and very cold. Our room was like ice when we entered and I told the girl at the desk that the heat seemed not be be working. She told me I must turn it on and it would heat up slowly. We went to dinner. 1 1/2 hours later we went to the room, no heat. It didnt work. Half hour later the extremely nice assistant manager brought us a heater. It worked but was very very loud. I barely slept. Very understaff, most staff very very junior. assistant manager run around like a slave as the main manager occasionally looks on in an unfriendly manner. Terrible service .

My wife and I stayed here 4 years ago and it was marvellous. We raved about it to our now teenage kids over those years. We booked a 2 night weekend stay for 9th and 10th October to celebrate daughter’s birthday. Due to Covid did expect it to be quieter than previously which it certainly was. Disappointed though by overall cleanliness of public areas and rundown appearance. Had issues with staff over a ‘bending’ of latest covid rules where some diners had alcohol despite being after 6pm curfew and indoors. Wife ordered soda and lime but got a flat one delivered by waiter

We arrived during a family fun day so it was quite busy and noisy with paper debris flying around the front entrance. It took a while for a bellman to get our luggage. Our bedrooms were a hike from the lift and reception/common areas so if anyone has walking issues, request a room nearer to these. Breakfast was included in the prepaid package but there was some confusion about who we were - not part of a tour group - we were initially sent to a function room for our meal instead of the dining room. Soon corrected. The buffet assortment was good but several items were missing due to delays in the staff replenishing these. One needs to book a dinner reservation ahead of time or space/time might be an issue. We ended up having our first dinner in their bar/lounge. Bar beverage selections were somewhat limited in comparison to other locations we stayed in and because the Scotch Whisky bar was closed they had to walk our choices over to the main bar. Bartenders were very friendly but of the few there - a staffing issue again - needed to learn more about their drink choices. We had them trained before we left! Rooms were clean and bright with all amenities. Otherwise, a very lovely place with grand lounge areas and a nice spa/pool facility.

Lovely looking hotel. Beautifully remodelled but asked for a room with an accessible toilet which surprisingly was the room furthest away from the life. A long walk for someone with mobility issues. Food in dining room disappointing. It was a family birthday celebration and my son said steak was expensive and very dry, even though medium done. Roasted winter veg were in fact boiled, not what the vegan in the party expected. Disappointed that no draft beer in bar so had to buy bottles, and carry them through to a separate room as there was no space for six in the bar. Made it an expensive night. Breakfast was very good .
