We loved our stay! Only think was the shower temperature control was a bit dogey bur apart from that we were overwhelmed. My only criticism of this hotel is its advertising, it’s totally underplayed! Our kids had their own kids corner with 2 lovely single beds in their room and it was perfect! So lovely! Breakfast in the restaurant was incredible, we sat in a pod outside and it was stunning! So lovely!

Perfect for river walks however it took a while to get taxis to Stamlake wine estate. The Bull inn nearby was fab for lunch and drinks and fantastic French Horn restaurant is a short walk away for an amazing meal with the family

This hotel is wonderful, it is in a very pretty location and the room we stayed in was clean and well maintained. Beautiful. The restaurant was good, the breakfast was delicious and well presented on a cast iron plate which was a cool touch. The only problem we had was that we stayed during the heatwave and although a fan was provided, we had a young baby with us and it was uncomfortably hot. We were on the top floor where all the heat rises and it was considerably cooler in the hallway and lower levels. Just bear this in mind if staying during hot months.

Despite being a historical group of buildings, the standard of the hotel, is far from historical. It is perfectly perched on the river Thames, in a lovely village. There are other establishments within a short walk, if you wanted to have some variety to your stay, it is also close to the The Mill theatre. Perfect for a couples get away, or special event. I was a lone traveler, returning to the area for a family event. Whilst the rooms are not air conditioned, the windows open, and fans are supplied, which in the event or hot weather, room temperature can be altered. Whilst tea and coffee bags are supplied along with fresh milk, it would be nice to be able to heat the milk for coffee, so that it doesn't lower coffee temperature too much. The hotel is used mid week for a lot of business functions and stays, which can make the bar and seating area quite noisy at times, whilst informal meetings are taking place.

The Great House at Sonning is the perfect relaxing escape from the city (while still being close to Reading). So picturesque and beautiful! We stayed in the Clocktower Family Suite which was adorable and perfect for our 3 kids (2 in the children's nook and one in a cot). It is only steps away from Coppa club and we enjoyed every meal we had there. The room was spacious and the bathrooms were also roomy and clean.
