Checking in was easy and efficient. Stayed for a family wedding. Ushers did not show wedding party to his and her sides of the ceremony room. Food was very good but sweet was changed last minute and people not liking cheesecake were not allowed to have ice cream as an alternative. Wedding room was brilliant and bedroom was spacious and well set out. The price of drinks was far too expensive and for this reason alone I would not recommend this hotel.

Appalling service, disgusting and pathetic behaviour of staff at all levels, very clear racist undertones a if you are a person of colour expect to be treated differently and unjustified action to minor complaints - clearly this cowboy operation needs to be exposed and reading through other reviews I’m not alone in my experience. Bully boy tactics from the owner and senior staff which filters through to reception and others within the team. I have stayed at the Van Dyk a few times and always had minor issues on every stay, weather that’s related to noise, other occupants smoking cannabis, faulty electrics and toilets or poor service and food at breakfast. I’d never complained before but on this occasion arriving after a long journey I was provided with a room that would fall short of a 4 star hotel and a frosty reception. Within an hour of arriving I found the sink with a significant chip, dirty towels and when taking a seat on the chair in my room found its leg broken which ended with me falling and bumping my head on the window. Hours later significant vibration in the room till 2am. The response from the owner and staff was disgusting, rude childish and far below any standards I’ve ever experienced and I stay 100+ nights a year across the country. I’ve experienced mild and indirect racism before so completely understood the tone, mannerisms of the staff, the lack of care and intelligence and direction this was going - expect the unexpected here and go elsewhere.

Really nice hotel, stayed in a spa suite with our two kids. Everything quite modern and new, restaurant is beautiful, staff on reception seemed genuinely interested in how your stay was. Breakfast was nice and topped up regularly, kids would have liked pancakes and nutella but neither on offer but it didn't stop it being plentiful and tasty. Room cleaning was a bit hit and miss but could have been a one off, arriving back late on our second evening we were greeted with full bins, dirty cloths left in bathroom and bedroom and not enough towels for us all. It didn't ruin our stay and we would definitely return.

The main part of the hotel we saw was lovely. We were there with family for an event, which we really enjoyed and was good value for money. A couple of points. Lovely meal with the event, well presented and served quickly. Unfortunately there was no Salt or Pepper on the tables, we asked but it never came. The menu said Chantilly Cream with desert we were told no cream. It didn’t say coffee and mints but that would have been nice. We stayed in the Manor room 1. Which was run down and had not been cleaned properly. My sister stayed in another room close by which was also a bit run down but felt clean The chair in our room was grubby and very dusty, the curtains were hanging off on one side, the were crisp crumbs in our drawers, we only had one glass, and only 2 teabags, the bathroom is dark. Overall the room was very disappointing. Considering these are supposed to be executive rooms. We would not come again if we we staying in these rooms again. It is a shame as the rest of the hotel was lovely the areas we saw. The staff were polite and smart. The event was good value. So a mixed review.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel with the wow factor. Only thing missing was a small kids play area.
