Beautiful hotel, very special place to stay but food let it down, breakfast was awful! Do not be put off by being a family hotel, we had a space in a “grownups” dining room!

The Ickworth Hotel was ideally situated for a relaxing country break. The interior and furnishings are dated and it would benefit from a spruce up. We loved our cosy room which was actually quite spacious. The hotel would benefit from having a separate bar area because although we have no issues with small children it would be nice to separate the adult and children’s areas. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room in the main house was pleasant and comfortable with antique furniture and comfortable bed. Large bathroom with plenty of light. Restaurant was excellent and they put couples in a separate room to families which made for a peaceful experience. Breakfast good too.

We had a two night stay in this lovely hotel. Saskia on reception was very helpful giving me a quick tour of the ground floor before directing me to our room. The room was very spacious and had a luxurious feel. The bathroom was very well equipped with some lovely toiletries. The towels were big enough and the flannels were a plus. We ate in the hotel restaurant on our first night and the food was nice. The waitress Emma was attentive without being intrusive. We did take advantage of a dip in the swimming pool during our stay, a great asset to the hotel. The gardens and access to Ickworth House next door was good too. Only a couple of things of note, I asked 2 different staff members for extra pillows as the ones on the bed were very soft but these did not appear and when housekeeping had finished servicing the room on the second day they left the door unlocked which was not appreciated as we had some valuables in the room and there wasn’t a safe, I’m sure it was an oversight and I did inform reception. If you are looking for a relaxing stay then do not visit in the school holidays as this hotel is very family friendly and appears to cater extremely well for children.

*Food & Drink* Drink menu was pretty large with options, food menu was a bit basic with a lot of overlap between lunch and dinner. On the pricey side for what you are ultimately getting but did taste good. People getting high tea in the conservatory looked to have a good time *Room & Bed* Room feels a bit dated and worn down (ex stained ripped carpet). Room was overall clean and had necessities, temperature/heating was good. Bed was quite old with a very soft old spring mattress, probably the area that could benefit the most in terms of an upgrade in the room. *Common Areas & Internet* Free wifi throughout the location with stronger speeds in the lobby/library area compared to the rooms, in case you need to take work calls. As the location is very family friendly, you will need to deal with kids running and screaming through the hallways at most hours of the day. There is a cinema in the lower level for kids to watch and be occupied alongside a kids library. *Overall Service* Nice traditional building with scenery and charm. Service could have been better in terms of speed/availability. Would recommend for parents/young family looking for a getaway, not the best for someone looking to get rest with some peace and quiet.

The hotel described its proposition as luxury family hotel, other than the price, little else is luxury. The bath tub is scratched, hot food at breakfast and dinner took time to come, choice of fruits was limited at breakfast and the lift was broken. Although, individual staff members were all very friendly. It felt like they were trying hard to maintain a run down place.
