Mystic Sands is a hidden gem. It surpassed all expectations and our family started planning our return trip the second we arrived. Mosi and her staff were the most welcoming and capable hosts I have ever experienced. The owners of this resort won the lottery when they got Mosi! I am half Tongan and wanted a neat experience for my kids’ first visit to Tonga. I didn’t expect the luxury we experienced. We stayed in the waterfront house and were blown away by the views and amenities. Mosi cooked breakfast and dinner for us as an add on to our trip and her meals were amazing and will be memorable for years to come. We were only at Mystic Sands for two nights and will be going back next time for several more. The dock is one of only a few in the area and diving and fishing boats will pick you up right from the dock. We snorkeled just off the dock with the gear at the resort and it was perfect for our 8, 10 and 11 year old kids. The little pool was clean and perfect for the kids when the sea was too rough for swimming since we were there in a pretty stormy week. The only hesitation I have about recommending this resort is that others will find out about it, and it will be hard to book a return trip.

My experience at Mystic sands went FAR above and beyond what I was expecting. I was expecting a regular hotel experience, but it turned out to be far more. Mossy and her husband Maka are the caretakers for the hotel and they took care of us like family from the start. Maka is the driver for guests (including airport pickup/dropoff) and Mossy takes care of breakfast, activity/excursion bookings and pretty much everything else. The hotel has (I think) 5 regular rooms, plus a standalone large house with two king bedrooms. We booked a regular room but Mossy moved us into the standalone house since we were the only guests there. Throughout our stay, my friend and I interacted with Mossy/Maka many times. Mossy is like a mother and has an outpouring of love and kindness. TIP - If you are there on a Sunday - go to church with Mossy and Maka. The language is Tongan but the experience was spiritual and heartfelt... and the singing is fantastic. TIP - Remember Tonga is more about cultural experiences... There are not a lot of restaurants/bars/etc., so grab your own food at the market/store. Definitely make sure to have food/drinks purchased before Sunday, as stores are closed all day Sundays.

My unit was clean and modern (though without a TV), and the WiFi Internet was reasonably fast and reliable (though data capped at 500 MBytes per coupon; fortunately the staff made coupons readily available). The host (Mosi) was very friendly and helpful, and helped raise my rating of this property. Be warned that this area is very limited in facilities. There are only very basic stores nearby (even in the 'main' town). The staff will arrange rides to/from the main town (at $Tonga25 each way); there are some restaurants/bars there. (For a round-trip shuttle from/to the airport, they charge $Tonga120 total.) (Don't be fooled by the 'infinity' pool shown in the photo; it is just a child-sized wading pool. Fortunately there is good swimming/snorkeling available in the ocean (and kayaks provided).)
