Suites del Mar By Melia

We loved the hotel and location. Sauna was out of order for couple of days which was a shame and for the last 3 days they didn’t provide us with fresh towels in the afternoon which was a bit disappointing but we enjoyed our stay. Pool area isn’t big enough for the hotel so summer time probably will be a problem to get a place as it does get busy. We thought it’s was adults only hotel but it’s not the case. Pool isn’t not big enough for children to have fun. Also pool is not heated and most of people didn’t bother some days water felt like it was topped up with ice but it’s march. Gym is really small as well but as I said we enjoyed it anyway.

As many have obviously done before me, at tried to check-in at the wrong Melia. The posh one with the nice interior. Oh, you're in the wrong place, Sir. Walk about 50 steps and walk straight into the 90s. Suites del Mar looks old. Waiting for check-in was a disaster. The wait was somewhere between 30-40 minutes, because the guys at reception were busy storing the luggage of guest checking out. No apologies, no smile. I was early for check-in, but the experience was a bummer. The room (junior suite) facing the marina was huge and clean, much more modern than the common areas (the pool area next to the cafeteria looked positively old). One huge problem for me were the night lights in the room - one above the bathroom door, one in the living room and one by the entrance. Extremely bright lights that can't be turned of (safety reasons?), so if you're sensitive to light, stay away. In general this feels like a 2-3 star hotel taking far too much money for a nights stay.

Great location and nice facilities. Make sure you stay in Suites del Mar and NOT the hotel. Exclusive pool, bar, breakfast room and spa facilities make extra cost very worthwhile. Highlt recommend a Suites del Mar sea view room and order the breakfast, a lovely way to start the day. NOTE: the suites do NOT have a sofa bed for kids. The sofa in the lounge area can be adapted for a child up to about 10 years old or maybe the hotel can supply a bed. Suites del Mar not recommended if you have 2 or more kids. Staff very good and helpful.

We regret booking into this hotel. We booked a room with a sea view, we got view looking over the car park, and told we could see the tops of the yachts. We complained but was told the hotel was fully booked, even though our description of the room was shown and booked 6wks before, they did not attempt any mediation. The hotel preference was the first priority was the Spanish family's, who got there sea view's. Also the rooms layout had both queen beds were together and open showers etc, have to be a very close family Would never go back to this hotel again, Alicante was great as usual.
