NH Collection Barcelona Gran Hotel Calderón

We stayed at NH Collection for 5 nights with our two young adult children. We had 2 balcony rooms. We stayed here as the location was great and close to our youngest child who is currently studying abroad. Upon checking in, my husband and I wanted to nap as we had traveled from the US and been awake nearly 24 hrs. Our room was on the 10th floor directly below the 11th floor bar with live DJ. We requested a room change but couldn't move until the next day. The second night (in our new room), we discovered the air conditioning wasn't working. We spoke to them the next morning and were told we simply hadn't kept the key card in the slot (even though we had). The third night there was still no AC. Finally the 4th day, the manager sent workers up (& came herself climbing on a ladder in our room to feel the vent in the ceiling). The workers admitted the hotel is undergoing new AC coils and our room hadn't been updated yet. Our children's room was plenty cool so we knew what could be expected. They offered us 2 free drink tickets at the 11th floor lounge (which we declined). We spoke to them again and told them we were disappointed in our room. They told us to email the hotel branch manager. I emailed him the day we checked out and never received a response. We travel quite a bit and have never been treated so poorly. We paid for 2 "Superior rooms with balconies" for 5 nights. I would never stay at this hotel again.

Excellent location to reach EVERYTHING. Nice room, big space, light, good soundproof windows. Not enough storage/shelves (we were 3 people staying for 9 nights). Very good breakfast. Shower cabin was leaking (tiles leaked- poorly connected), but that didn't spoil the stay at all. Were left with 2 shower towels half of the time being 3 people in the room. Last 2 nights were very noisy (2 families with small kids were shouting and laughing like mad till 2am even after receptionist asked them not to). Overall very nice hotel. Would stay again.

We only stayed for 2 nights and it was the first time away from two babies since covid, so treated ourselves to the suite with terrace room. The view was absolutely stunning, could see the Gaudi and a big portion of the city from the terrace. Very comfortable, air conditioning both cold and warm and easy to control, we used the room service which was all done via an app and instant messenger type thing, but very very easy. Staff were lovely, all spoke multiple languages and couldn’t do enough to help you. Will be returning before Easter with our children this time.

Staff were wonderful. Fantastic location near La Rambla. Kevin took care of us like we were family. He made suggestions for food and shopping, got us taxis and gave them specific instructions on where to take us and leave us off at locations, and watched out for my brother who arrived late the next day and got him set up in his room and located us so that he could join us at Monseratt. Another young lady at the front desk set up bus tours to view the city. Another young man suggested beaches. Everyone was wonderful in every location in the hotel. Breakfast was very good. Beautiful city and a great location. Will come back to Barcelona and stay at this hotel again.

On checking out today I questioned being charged tourist tax for a 15 year old when the hotels.com says not chargeable for children. Hotel insisted the charge stands and wouldn’t budge. Really disgusted and it’s 5 star in name only,… service is not outstanding, we waited 40 minutes for food by the pool. The exterior room view was a wall. Avoid as it’s not 5 star and dishonest charging tourist tax for children.
