If you want a peaceful haven away yet close enough to Funchal Town then this is the place. Not a hotel for the masses nor roudy or loud people. The poolside was rarely enjoyed by more than six or ten hotel guests and even children were kept very quiet by considerate parents who acknowledged others' desire for quiet. Excellent food in the Restaurant and an ok breakfast (prob 4 star not 5). Superb staff throughout. Beautiful gardens - a modern hotel in a sub tropical garden the best we saw in Madeira.

We've made three visits to this sophisticated hotel - and hope there will be many more. Our last visit was blissfullly child-free and calm. We did hear somebody moaning that "there wasn't much to do - no aqua-aerobics" - if you want activities, DO NOT STAY HERE. If you want lovely gardens and a beautiful library to relax in, to read quietly round the pool, have elegant but relaxed breakfasts and lunches under an umbrella - then this may be for you...
