Sugar Beach Mauritius

Another great stay at Sugar Beach. This is some of the best service I've received in Mauritius. I'm sure everyone is mandated to smile and say 'bonjour' to guests, but beneath that corporate exterior are genuinely friendly, funny, attentive people. I had real conversations and felt very well looked after. Standouts included Reshma on reception, the door guys, Bianca and the girl doing the fried eggs at breakfast, the juice trainee, but especially the pool bar staff. Fazle and the other servers were helpful and great with my kids. The nurse really helped me out with advice and calling the doctor when my daughter was sick. Needless to say, the hotel, food and facilities were great.

Even though its was 4 times higher priced over xmas and nye, it was still the best option for us for our family holiday. We got to really just kick back and enjoy the resort and all it has to offer which includes all facilities at its sister hotel as well. The beach in Flic n Flac is absolutely the best. Better than all others on the island. Tremendous thanks to Arvin who is a superstar at the resort and really went out of his way to ensure our stay was more than pleasant. The guys at the pool service and beach service are also commended for their great service. The Xmas and NYE gala dinners and events were amazing and quality of food. Thank you Sugar Beach. The newly renovated rooms are awesome. Steer clear from old manor house rooms which are ancient.. (my advise). Thanks Sugar Beach. We will be back for sure. Family with two 5 year-old kids stayed on half-board. After a bad checkin-experience where we had to wait for the room to be cleaned (1,5h) the hotel really did a good job compensating for it. The plus: - Hotel pool is great, lush and huge, never feels crowded. - Good service, like room service is really fast and taxi:s are easy to get. - Super nice kids club with a lot of fun activities, more varied than other kids clubs we've been to, like wind-surfing and glass-bottom boat as examples. The bad: - When we had two nights left and tried to book a table (in the morning) at buddha bar by the beach for evening dinner, but turned out to be fully booked, so reservations need to be made several days before the dinner to be able to dine at any other restaurant than the main one. - Also, the italian restaurant by the beach not very service minded. Wanted a takeout stone-oven-made pizza and came 2 minutes too late (03.02 pm) and was told the closed 03.00pm. A bit of flexibility there would be nice, since the chef was there and did his last pizzas for the lunch anyway. - A bit far from supermarkets/stores. First supermarket is a 10-minute walk, and the shopping mall is about 10 minutes of taxi (1000 rupies roundtrip) However, overall, I'd strongly recommend this one, the bad things were probably a bit of bad luck. Actually we stayed at Hilton afterwards, next door, and I'd say sugar beach is a better family choice. Fells more up-to-date with everything.
