Johanna Park Hotel

I only gave 3 stars to this hotel because some staff and some things were okay but I do even think it deserves 3 stars. I reserved a room with a view but something happened I guess when we checked in because they told us to come back down stairs and that they are changing our room: they called it garden view away from the hotel and we had to drag our luggage down not even sure what to call it. The room was semi clean because there were aunts on the floor. The ridge didn’t work and the view was horrible! It was unkept garden you don’t even want to see and small lizards were all we saw. The place seems like it’s a family run than corporate ran because the person that helped checked us in was also the person that took our order at the restaurant and also the one that drove the shuttle to the city. They seem to have many hats. The person that took us to the city (that drove the shuttle) told us to wait where he dropped us off and gave us the schedule for the shuttle so we went to the same spot and waited at 9 pm which the shuttle never came. When we called the hotel they told us he just left and should be there soon which never happened. When we called the hotel again no one answered. We waited until 10 to see if the 10 pm would come on time and since we waited until 9:30 we said 30 minutes wouldn’t change anything. We waited 10 after 10 and took a taxi to the hotel and when i mentioned it to the guy in the front desk he said the driver was there at 10 but at a different spot.

Our family took 2 rooms for 9 nights at the hotel. The beat thing about the hotel is their staff, they very kind and always keen to help. Even though the hotel is with small number of room the service is 24/7. the pool is great the kids loved it . The hotel should upgrade some of its furniture and it would help to add a kittle in the rooms. we enjoyed our stay and for recommend to stay at this hotel especially for families with kids.

The property is very clean, and the view is good. Staff is extremely caring. From receptionist, barista, waiter, you feel warm welcome from everyone. It like steps into my own big family except my dog would not bark at me. There is shuttle between hotel and Sorrento which is a plus.

We arrived at Sorrento Train/Bus station at midday, rang the hotel and Johanna told us where to wait and kindly sent the shuttle bus to pick us up. The greeting at the hotel was like arriving home with Johanna welcoming us and proudly showing us her new swimming pool before we signed in and were shown to our room on the second floor (room 206). The room space was ample with wardrobe space and plenty of storage for our luggage etc. Nice bath/shower room and a beautiful view of the Bay of Naples. The hotel is a true family enterprise with Johanna being helped by her daughters and son who also took on the various roles involved with running the business eg. shuttle bus drivers to hotel reception. We were dropped of at the train station when we went on excursions to Pompei, Herculaneum and the boat trip to Capri which Johanna suggested and arranged for us was brilliant, we were even taken into town by Johannas lovely daughters in there own car when the shuttle was unavailable. The cleaning staff were always polite in the morning and the room was always left a lot tidier than we had left it!!. Breakfast had enough variety for us with cereals, and the usual continental ham, cheese, breads etc. and the wonderfully happy waiter always offered fried eggs or ommlettesas a further option. The pool area had plenty of seating and sun beds and the pool itself was a real bonus after a day of visiting the sites especially the jaccusi section at the shallow end.

Johanna Park is a nice simple hotel. The food is average and as pricy as anywhere. Breakfast was included but just average, all they had was scramble eggs, no other egg options, ham, bread, croissant, etc. It was a little better than continental breakfast but nothing spectacular. Coffee was from a machine that had coffee and espresso but it was a vending machine type. Lunch and Dinner menus were boring, nothing great. We ordered dinner once, the food was bland and hardly tasty (gnocchi boring, burger no buns, omelette tasteless. Salad with no salad dressing. The worst was their internet, no service in the room although advertised as internet available. It only worked in the lobby, this was awful, we can't relax and contact family and friends as we could not use internet from home. It is about 10 minutes drive from Sorrento downtown.

nice welcome. A shuttle to and from town every 2 to 3 hours which was really good as it is out of town on a hill. A good English breakfast. loungers to relax around a small but clean pool and a beautiful view of the coast and of the volcano. the waiter always greeted you cheerfully in the morning and made everyone feel at ease. a lovely family run hotel.
