Novotel Marseille Centre Prado Vélodrome

We booked the wrong hotel. Pleased to find a Novotel so close to where we had an early morning appointment, we didn't look any further at the website until too late to change. We entered Reception at 10pm. It was like walking into a kindergarten at playtime, with the addition of doting parents. The receptionist yawned as she handed us a key and shrugged towards the lift. The room was as expected, standard Novotel, small, but this hotel was in the middle of the city. The restaurant advertised itself as open until 10.30pm, so we went straight there. One person on duty, so scruffy I couldn't believe he was a maitre d', or a waiter. He did his best to persuade us that they were so busy and so short-staffed we'd have too long a wait for our food, then seated us between two tables of families with small children - the only two of three in the entire restaurant that were occupied. He refused to move us to another table ("the other tables are laid for breakfast" - which they patently were not, not even by the time we left), so we upped and moved our table, which incurred his wrath, but he didn't carry out his threats. The menu was tiny and uncomplicated, mostly salad, which was fine with us, and it took about 3 minutes to arrive. We enjoyed the meal, good fresh tuna, good salad, deleted 42€ for a bottle of wine from the bill - we had ordered a small glass each, replaced our table and went off to a good night's sleep. Thank the Lord the room was well insulated against noise.
