Simply one of the true 5 star hotels globally. Exquisite service. Phenomenal food. I will never stay anywhere else in Shanghai. They make you feel so special. Like family. They cannot do enough for you.

The service is very good, including the attitude of the employees, the rooms are spacious and the bed is quite comfortable, check-in was fast. Some things that we didn't like I don't think we will return to the hotel; Between the bathroom tiles it had a black line of dirt, we were a family of 6, the elevator barely fit and the prices were exaggeratedly high for food, wonton soup that is commonly available for 20 yuan there, it was sold for 188, 5 yuan soda had it for 55 yuan, we know that because it is a 5-star hotel the prices are higher but to such an extent it is not justifiable.
something that only happens in this country, wearing a cap to use recreation pool, hahaha (sorry but it's funny).

Staying at one of the most iconic historic sites in Shanghai was an unexpected unusual experience out of all the other hotels/resorts stays I have ever encountered in my adult life. Originally, the stay was for one room only out of my family member's high recommendation. As soon as we arrived, I began to understand there is a reason why this historic hotel is capable of charging a higher rate than the same star rating hotels blocks away and still maintaining it's top tier spot from user review. We end up booked one extra room to enjoy our stay even more. Simply put, you got what you paying for, and a lot more.
The Fairmont Gold service is at an entire different level of service from both the personal touch of initial encounter of Zoey who gave a very informative introduction for my family's first stay and from Eileen who streamline the expedited checkout service with ease at our last date. The Fairmont Gold provides so much more than any other hotel services: continental breakfast in a classical lounge, afternoon tea, evening Hors d'oeuvres(appetizer served at the beginning of a meal), in lounge selection of free alcohol at bar. Not to mention well replenished water bottles, top brand personal hygiene products (Rose 31). Furthermore, thanks to hotel's museum curator Linda, we were giving some exclusive access to tour the hotel areas which was close to public tour on the date of our tour. This complete our trip in Shanghia, China.
Try at least once and you shall see.

Its elegance and beautiful but with flaws. Staff were excellent and charming like the hotel but if you and your family are used to hand bidet spray in the toilet seat, then this hotel is not for you. The toilet in the room don't have a hand bidet spray which I find it surprising for a hotel of such stature. There are many electric plugs but most of them in our room are not working. If it ain't working, then it need to be fixed. If it can't be fixed, then it is not rentable. Overall mixed emotions with such a grandeur place.

Location is central for Bund, Old Town, Pudong, Nanjjng Rd and subway lines 2 and 10. Staff is most professional, knowledgeable and helpful. Lily Li was awesome and instrumental in us enjoying our time. We were a family of four with two kids and continuously changing needs - nonetheless we had a very smooth stay with our smallest whims and needs catered for. Will likely make many more stops at this hotel.

I loved this hotel so much!! From the moment I walked into this amazing establishment I loved it. The staff were so friendly, dress perfectly and had a big smiles on their faces. I stayed here with my husband and 2 children. The rooms were so amazing. I loved everything about this place and can't wait to come back. The only place I will stay in Shanghai!!

This is a hotel full of history, charm and elegance. I stayed here with my wife and two kids (14 and 12) and loved it. The location is superb. After being in too many five stars hotels in China I can confidently say that here one meets the best English speaking staff that one can ever encounter in hotels in this country. My only criticism is that the breakfast buffet was biased towards the Chinese taste buds, however, the overwhelming majority of the guests where Chinese so one cannot really complain.
