The Grand Hotel Nanaimo

The hotel is clean and quiet, beds are comfortable, we got our room upgraded which is a surprise. The elevator door has some issues to close, so we use stairs instead. Not suggest for families with kids, since no yard space to stay or play, and lobby has old displays/decorations everywhere.

Loud kids running up and down hall early morning. Wasn’t impressed

Our check in was fast, the staff were friendly, and our room was very nice. I was extremely pleased with how accommodating they were for us. We were travelling to Nanaimo for an extremely important family event that started at 3pm the day we’re arriving. I called the hotel the morning we were arriving to ask if it might be possible for us to check in closer to 1pm (3 hours early). This way we could get settled in, and get ready for the event in the comfort of our hotel room, as opposed to finding a public washroom to change into our dress clothes before the event, and having to check in closer to midnight. They said they would make sure our room would be ready no later than 1pm…and it was! I will be sure to book a room at The Grand Hotel for any future stays in Nanaimo!

Great place to stay and made my family feel comfortable there!

We enjoyed the Old English homey feel of the property; kind staff; but very disappointed there was no dining room servlce, not even breakfast available! The rooms were clean and had lovely balconies looking toward the mountains. Sadly there is much building going on around the building. We also had some very unthoughtful people with children who came in at around 11 pm and they allowed the kids to run up and down in the hall..for some time. The staff promised to do something..so they did quite down.

Staff were very friendly, but room only moderately comfortable. Carpet seemed to have gaps in the underlay, causing floor to seem “lumpy”. Bed and pillows far too soft for my liking, although my wife seemed to sleep well. Location very convenient while visiting family in the north end of town.
