Lack of staff at reception for check-in. I checked in and being asked to obtain a credit card, when I am getting in, someone come to ask to solve a problem. I have been waiting patiently for few mins but not solved yet. And I drive the car out to wander around the site for another 20 mins and return. The staff is still talking to that person to solve the problem. I don’t want to be rude but I spent more than enough time in waiting for someone to cut me out and finish the check in finally at 8pm. The restaurant around closed at 9pm. I bring my kids and finally can’t go anywhere for dinner. The staff compensate for a garden view room and complimentary drinks but it is night time, any view did not create any difference and I didn’t use the drink coupon as well because we are busy to settle down with kids.

This was our first time visiting Yarra Valley Lodge and we were pleasantly surprised. The Garden View Family room was perfect for us (2 adults, 2 kids) They were very prompt to ask if we wanted a cot set up prior to arrival, which they did with no fuss. There were ample towels & blankets. We had lunch at the Lodge Bar which was ok. We booked into the Bella Restaurant on the Saturday night which was a set menu. We opted to have the wine pairings with it. The meal was fabulous, probably a bit too much food. All in all, it was a lovely stay and we would likely stay there again.

Lovely quiet location, surrounded by green open space. Fantastic walking the Yarra trail, breakfast was superb and the staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended for a weekend away with kids.

A bigger lounge area to just chill with a bar would be perfect and maybe a kids area

Bathrooms and furniture need a refurbishment. Shower was not even a full square size as one corner was 'cut' off. Bending over to shave my legs (I'm not big at all) was out of the question. The bed had some kind of topper put on it which made it very soft but it wasn't uniform, there were large 'lumps' across the surface. One of the nights we stayed, fellow guests roamed the corridors, after returning late from their wedding functioning, having conversations directly outside the rooms and with their children running repeated sprints, as fast as they could, for their entertainment. I had to contact reception in the end. No change occurred with a phone call, so at 1:30am I got dressed and went to reception. Part of the offending party were sitting there, clearly not having been instructed that it was time to be quiet /go to bed. The night manager finally saw to this but he seemed out of his depth /not trained for this type of situation. This was after earlier in the evening not being able to dine in the bar comfortably as other patrons had their very young children running /crawling around the floor, making a racket.

Room and facilities were great. Great buffet breakfast and nice dinner menu. Beautiful scenic golf course. Staff were a little unfriendly compared to other hotels/resorts we have stayed and didn't seem very interested in young kids. Staff don't give the impression that they are eager to please. Would have expected more from a 5 star hotel - no concierge on checkout on a Sunday morning, had to line up for half an hour to check out (no express checkout).
